which wolf primer for hot ppc loads?

I have a Viper action that is the basis for a 6PPC. It has an .062 firing pin tip. Have any of you tried the Wolf small rifle and small rifle magnum primers for a similar application? What were your results?

Use the small rifle magnum flavor. The 'regular' small rifle primers are WAY soft - better suited to pistol cartridges than rifles.

I use the magnums in my 6mmBR's and found I did not need to change my load at all and the accuracy and ES's improved over CCI-450's,the Fed 205M's were too soft for my load).

I don't think the primers differ at all in the compound or charge weight, but the magnum cups are made of far stiffer stuff

Boyd,

I purchased 5,000 from PVI just at the end of last year. Am I glad I did. I have shot them in .222, .223 and the 6mm ppc with great results, none pierced. The small rifle mag primers can be on the tight side in some cases using K&M seater.

Over all, glad I purchased 5k large & 5K small rifle mag. and at $90 per 5k plus hazmat & shipping was a steal compared to what some are paying on gunbroker currently.

Thanks,
Tony

The Russian-made,KVB, Wolf) primers are thought to be on the larger side of the diameters of other brands.

That can be a help when loading cases fired one or more times, or a hindrance loading some,Lapua BR comes to mind) for the first time that have pockets on the lean end of the specs.
