Nosler partition 60 grainer, I've used them in 222s' 223s, 22-250 and swifts. They have done the job everytime, never lost a deer or a critter. That bullet in the swift accounted for my biggest muley, a big rack with a very big body at a little over 300 yards, he took two steps.

If your using it in the 223 just be patient and put it where it counts, it will do a great job. I've always wanted to try the 70 grain TSX but can't, I'd feel like I was betraying the lil nosler.
are you saying you harvested a muley at 300 yards with a 223 ? wow thats impressive. i have no intention of shooting deer sized animals with a 223 at that range. its not for me, its for my grandson, just until he gets bigger to handle something bigger.

RWK. You can get away with the 60 gr JLK in that 1:14. BC is outstanding for the weight. equivalent to Berger "hunting' line of bullets. thin jackets. Run it 3600 Seymour Fish

^^^^ True, I shoot my coyotes, antelope, and deer with a 22x47 lapua and a 90 grain vld at 3150 fps. Extremely effective.

Don't use tiny cartridges for ethical hunting of big game!

The .223 and other small bores are not legal in many places and that's because they are marginal. Too small when something happens out of ideal.

Never mind the cartridge that was designed to wound the enemy.

They (22 cal centerfires) are WAY more ethical (quicker killers) than archery equipment with exact same shot placement. Nobody ever says anything to sting hunters about ethics...

Make and take good shots (just like a bowhunter should) and there will never be a problem. If you want to shoot long ways through deer or terrible angles or terrible shot placement, yes there are better options.

I have used a 220 Swift with Speer 70 gr with one shot success.
The 223 will be low on velocity with this bullet even if it will stabilize .
I would look at the lightest Game King bullet.
Get a good broadside shot just back of the shoulder, lower half of the pocket.

I will take the guy with ability and a small caliber rifle, over the standard 40 rounds a year guy with a larger caliber every time. Ethics lies in the operator, not the tool.

Wrong.

Ethics lies in a good operator who has the common sense to use the RIGHT tool.

All of a sudden we get an ethics lesson from someone with nearly 1000 posts and 17 transactions, all on a site supported by members' donations.

There's two bullets out there that have worked well (within reason) for a long time, the Winchester 64gr Power point, which you can buy as reloading bullets, and the 60gr Hornady SP (and HP). They work well for smallish medium game. I thing the better solution is just buy an upper in 6.5 Grendel or even 6X45. Either one would be much better and the Grendel is really very good for any medium game with 100-120gr bullets.

If this site went down today I wouldnt lose one wink of sleep. Just a place to alleviate boredom. Keep donating if you wish. My donations go to more important things in life like my sons football league, schools, and church...

Making ethics issues seems like a televangelist whose preaching is nothing more than "holier than thou."

I've killed deer with everything from handguns to muzzleloaders to 30-06 to arrows to .223 to 22LR. 22LR requires some attention to detail.

But any projectile with 500 ft-lbs of energy that expands and penetrates 12-16" will do the job quickly if you put it into the boiler room. Varmint bullets are a poor choice in .223, because they fail to provide adequate penetration. A lot of appropriate bullets have been mentioned here including the Partition and Barnes X bullets.

Does this qualify as the RIGHT tool?

What about the number of others who posted of their successes?
Are those simply figments of our collective imagination?

Which .224 bullets have YOU tried and experienced failure with?

Sure hope an inexperienced and unsolicited opinion isn't an attempt replace actually having "been there and done that"...

To each his own i guess. Dont miss your mark with those little bullets. Of course you are all probably such good marksmen that am errant shot is never a possibility... ;) Im out.

There is one in every group. They can "not" do so they take a stand. Just so we are all on the same page not everyone pushes and shoots at running targets.
