The Rockchucker WAS a good press......now they're made in China......

Has anyone here actually USED a Chinese made Rockchucker? I know the knee-jerk reaction to seeing a "Made in China" sticker is to run away like someone handed you a box of Horse Poop but just how bad can they screw up a casting with only one real moving part?

Remember when nobody wanted anything "Made in Japan"? Now their products are pretty much the gold standard when it comes to cars and electronics.

I know that my "Chinese Made" Chargemaster has worked flawlessly since I bought it 3 years ago. Many thousands of rounds loaded with it each year. I've had more problems with my "American Made" chronograph than any of my "Made in China" equipment.

People who always quote that.." Yeah but they are made in China ( or Japan) are usually people that sit on the dirt floor and eat with their hands! They have only ever bought an item from Uncle Orb's general Store and wouldnt know a good product if it waved a flag at them. If I didnt have my RockChucker Id buy a Redding....mainly because I like green.....:)

In fact after selling ym Dillon 550-B I may just buy the Redding anyway....so I can run two setups at the same time.

Lee? *raspberry*..Ive got one I use for ram priming and nothing more. Works fine for that!!???

No, I don't know anyone that has a Chinese Rockchucker. I do know that the 10/10 scale is now made over there and they have succeeded in turning a product that had a good reputation and turned it into J-U-N-K.
They ( Chinese) apparently HAVE been able to "screw up a casting with only one moving part" ( if you consider the ram and linkage as one part).....hence the reason for this post.
FWIW, I DO use a Chargemaster and think highly of it.

They also don't know how the world of business works. It isn't because people want to buy cheap Chinese products as much as the companies have to seek lesser expensive sources for their products or they wouldn't be affordable by anyone. If one wants to place any blame, look to labor and their demands for more wages and benefits than the market will bear.

Also consider the many ways that something can be represented as "Made in USA". Doesn't mean that parts or castings don't come from foreign sources.

I find it amusing that there are those that brand a product as "junk" yet the Company that sells them can't seem to keep enough in stock to meet the demand ??? Apparently all don't share the same opinion.

It is very sad to here the Rockchukar is now made in China. I always thought the RCBS stuff was made in Oroville California. Mine is going 35 + years without a problem.

I have a cheap Lee, an old Rockchucker and this - a RCBS Partner. If you do not perform heavy case forming, it is a great tool. Found this one on e-bay:

I have and use an old herters press....You can't buy one new any more but if something happened to it like my house burned I would search the gun shows and internet for another....What a rugged rig.

Hello gentlemen

I'm sort of sad seeing how this thread is going,I wouldn't like you to get mad at each other for such a petty question,so I announce to you all that the problem is definitely solved for good;this morning being monday here,I called the only gunshop in Noumea that has a certain choice of reloading equipment(mostly RCBS...)just to make sure I wasn't mistaken about the price they charge for a Rockchucker, and wow,I actually was, they had one for$250,which is a real bargain here,so I dashed down there and it's already installed on my "portable reloading bench"next to the challenger press I already had,so all is well as ends well...No need to get all uptight about it.Thanks to all who spent a bit of their time to help me out with their advice, and yes New Caledonia is North of NZ and East of Brisbane Australia, about 2,5 hours flight away from both....And yes the diving around here is totally awesome,I did that for more than 24 years(spear fishing) and it was a real knock off,we have what is considered as one of the nicest lagoon on the planet.Come on over and see for yourself;thanks to all for your help, when I get the money,I'll give that CoAx a chance, meanwhile I can't wait to see how this Rockchucker improves on my Challenger press that I really like.Good shooting to all.
