Which Scope

300 RUM

Gene Nowaczyk
I am going to purchase a new scope and looking for some advice/ opinion. THE TWO I HAVE BROKEN IT DOWN TO ARE THE "Sightron 36x42" or the Weaver 36x40" Any ideas or thoughts?

The Weaver is hard to beat for the money. I have a T-36 with a target dot and I like it. I use mine for BR-50.

If you are referring to the Weaver T36 and the Sightron SII Big Sky 36x, I say toss a coin. I use both and really do not prefer one over the other, both have been extremely reliable and repeatable.

I opine ($.02 :) ) that you get whichever one you can get the best deal on.

I would take the SII Big Sky 36x Sightron over the SII 36x Sightron, and would take both over the Weaver. The Big Sky model is better than the other two, and between the other two it will be a matter of personal opinion. Price would be my final deciding factor...I think.

I can't speak on the 36x directly, but during HBR matches I had two Weaver T6s stop tracking. The dial would just spin and do nothing. I switched to a Sightron 6x and have used it in every match for 5 years now without issue.
Maybe just luck of the draw?

I can't speak about the Sightron but I have the Weaver with dot reticle on a 6ppc and I like it. The best price I have found for the Weaver T36 is Killoughshootingsports.com, $370 plus shipping. The IOR Valdada fixed 36x looks interesting to me but it is almost 4x the price.

The Weaver T-36x's are a very good scope, in their price range. I have one mounted on a 22ppc that I use at a maximum distance of 200 meters, and the T-36x covers those needs perfectly. I also have 3, of the Weaver T-24x's & they have all been trouble free for over 15 years.

For longer distance requirements, out to 500 meters I do use scopes of higher magnification & variable power, but at a greater cost.

At our local benchrest varmint match's, for score, I see a lot of Weaver T-36x's on the line & many times they finish in the money winning top three places. Don't know anything about the Sightron's, but do recommend the Weaver's.

Check the warranties. I think Weaver is original owner only, at least it was. I like my two Sightron II 36X's with the dot. The locking objective adjustment is nice. Don't know if Weaver has that.

Weaver does have a lock ring on the objective. I don't know about the T36's but I do have a T24 I like. For F-Class I would prefer a variable, that mirage can get tough.
