scope question

I have a new Remington 700 in 223 with a sightron 36x42 on top.
The scope is almost out of adjustment to the right what might cause this.Weaver style base and weaver grand slam rings,steel)

The simplest explanation is that the holes for the scope mount bases are drilled off center. That, perhaps combined with the fact that tenon or barrel threads are slightly off-axis could put you way over to one side. The rings could also be less than ideal. I'm surprised you used up nearly all your windage adjustment, even with those potential flaws.

The easy solution is to buy a set of Burris Signature Zee rings with the offset inserts. If you align the inserts split vertically rather than horizontally, you can "pre-load" offsetting windage adjustment.

CAN I TAKE THE BASES OFF AND SPIN THEM AROUND THIS WOULD MAKE THE SCOPE TRACK BACK TO THE LEFT,RIGHT IF THAT THE PROBLEM..

A simple way to determine whether it's the rifle/base/rings vs. the scope is to try another scope -- if you have one -- in the setup.

I had a Leupold Mark 4 16x that had one half of a minute windage remaining after I zeroed it at 100y. Which wouldn't be a problem as long as the wind only blew from one direction.

I wondered, like you are, what the heck?!!!

I installed the scope on a different rifle, with different rings and base. Same problem.

Ditto on a third rifle.

I sent the scope back to Leupold, who returned it with a note saying that it had been looked over, here's how much adjustment range it has from mechanical center, blah blah. Installed the scope, and son-of-a-gun, they didn't fix anything!!! But it IS the scope, not one iota of doubt. Other scopes work just fine on these rifles, all of which are built on custom actions by top 'smiths, and are nearly perfect.

Your rifle might be another story. But if you have a spare scope, you oughta check.

Here is an easy fix. If your using weaver style blocks.
Buy some Millet rings {angle lock]. They have windage corrections in both the front and rear. This will allow you to center your windage. Remington actions have a flaw on some years the rear holes were off to one side.
