Which scope

Hi guys,
Looking at scopes for my 7mm-08 its going to be used for target and silhouette, ranges from 200 - 1000 yards/meters and the occasional deer/varmint hunt, when I can gather the energy to lug it around the bush :P, after reading a fair bit I've narrowed it down to the Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 with the RapidZ Varmint Reticle and the Sightron S3 either 6-24x50 or 8-32x56 (Still deciding, not much of a reticle choice with the Sightrons, only reticles I can get are mill dot, fine xhair and fine target dot.) My rifle already has a Picatinny 20moa rail fitted.

I'm leaning more towards the Zeiss at this this stage, will the 6.5-20x50 be adequate for 1000 yard stuff? will that power allow me to see my targets clearly etc, also it says that the Zeiss is a AO (adjustable objective, I take it) is that the same thing as a front parallax adjustment where you turn the front of the scope depending on what range your shooting,or will this adjustment be on the side of the scope?

Just after some opinions, advice and first hand experiences.

Thanks in advance.

The zeiss parallax or AO adjustment is on the side of that scope. the 6.5x20x50 Zeiss has 45 MOA no alot. if your going to be shooting to 1000 yds with this scope you may need a cant base.

A suggestion would be to find out how much bullet drop you are going to have a various distances. In hunting coyotes and fox, I've found big surprises in judging distances that mean either a hit or miss at various ranges. A mildot reticle (if you know how to use it) is very helpful. Even with a range finder a shooter needs to know and judge the amount of bullet drop from say a rifle sighted in at 200 yards to a target say 400 or 600 yards away. Its a lot more than a lot of guys think. Best Wishes in you search.

Frank:

Unless something has recently changed at Sightron, Bill Ackerman is the source used by Sightron for reticle problems and changes. This of course pertains to the SI & SII models. I believe he does not change the reticles in the SIII model. If you call or email Sightron regarding a reticle change, they will respond with Bill Ackerman's phone number.

Richard: Thanks for that info. I did not realize there was a business connection between Sightron and Ackerman.

My first thought was of all those who have had their Leupold's boosted, or otherwise modified by Premier and now they are left with a scope that neither Leupold or Premier will work on.
