Which Primer for the 284 Shehane?

cci br2 no other comes close with H4831 sc 55/56 grns 2930 with 180 grn heads ,es 4
32 inch bartlin barrel , it realy dosent get much better for long range and barrel life

+1 on the CCI BR-2. I did a pretty extensive comparison of the BR-2, F210GMM, and Wolf LRM, and the BR-2 was consistently better.

It must have been quite tricky to get 65-66gns into the Shehane???

Terry, what powder are you using in the Shehane? If it is H4350, then the PMC,Wolf,Tula primers seems to work together with H4350.

I'm just getting the pieces together. Should have the build done late winter.

The 210m federal primers work well with 4350 in my 284 shehane, and has been stated cci br2s work well with 4831sc

So at what point do you need a magnum primer? I know the double based powders are supposedly harder to ignite, but for powders such as 4831 or H1000, when do you need to switch to mag primers for consistent ignition?

Good question. I tested a 7mm wildcat with over 71 grains of powder shooting the 180 Hybrids at over 3100 fps and the BR-2 was fine. The powder was IMR7828SSC. It may have more to do with pressure than ignition because the magnum cups are said to be harder than the regular in some brands.

Thanks for the reply. I am almost done putting together my 7 Saum and will be doing load development soon. I think I will start with the br-2 primers and H-1000.

Not my opinion but someone else's that I read somewhere. He said for competition, use a regular primer and for dangerous game use magnum primers. His point was when you want to be absolutely sure the powder column ignites, use the magnum primers.
