This "play" in a T7 head is a good thing then? I can see where a little play in the ram of a press can help with self alignment allowing the case to center itself up but what about the play in the head? I may be looking at this all wrong but looks to me like when there is play in the head as the t7 has, although its not much, it would let the die move to a slightly tilted angle.

My thoughts on a press.
No 1 any press will make straight cases. The shell holder only holds the bottom of the case . The die that the case is being pressed in makes the case to a standard.
The movement in a press effect the head space. Nothing else when sizing.
No 2 Seating a bullet Bad dies make for out of round or run out when seating. Many of time bad set up with seating dies is also the problem. The press get the blame. Straight line seating guides the case and the bullet together.
I have taken presses that have had .018 miss alignment and made perfect bullets.
Seating Dies must hold the case in alignment before the bullet is seated. If the seating stem isn't in perfect alignment with the case you will always get run out..
My self I like Forster Co Ax with Wilson seating. Larry

Joe you are correct . A man could push a case with is finger to the side with 10# of pressure. The press could have 30,000 psi
When a case centers it's self in the die. the base of the case is where all the pressure is applied. The shell holder is for three reasons . 1 provide a base for the case when sizing 2 It is used to pull the case out of the sizing die. 3 Some dies use the top of the shell holder for a dead stop. I have been using a T7 now for around 4 years. Yes the head does tilt slightly when pressure is applied to it. My experience with it is completely positive. I load various cartridges with many loaded rounds at zero runout and some at .002-.003 and an occasional bad case in excess of that. The press is only one part of the equation. Dies, cases themselves and operator attention to detail matter as much if not more. JMO Barlow
