Which Precision AR Trigger?

Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to the AR world but have a precision 22 PDK (22-6.8SPC essentially, sends 77gr pills at over 3000FPS from my 20" tube) that I'd like to upgrade the trigger in (currently is a mil-spec unit). I'm using the rifle to learn how to shoot long range and to hunt antelope and deer mostly.

I am seeing that they run from $100-$300 and would really be interested in hearing how something like the RRA National Match Trigger compares to the higher dollar ones. What are your thoughts on the best trigger for that application? What would you say the best trigger would be for under &150?

I have one from American Trigger Corp on my LAR-243 and it is great. Its a 2 stage which I never thought I would like.

For under $150 I honestly don't think you can beat a RRA Nat. Match trigger . I had all my others ,which ran between 5 to 9 1/2 lbs , tuned to 3 1/2 lb triggers on all of mine . Do it and don't look back .

By the way, what I meant to say is that I took ALL of the others taken out and replaced them with tuned RRA Nat. Match Triggers . No comparison and no regrets ! It's getting harder by the moment to be clear !!!!

I really like my CMC (Chip McCormick) drop in trigger which is self-contained.. Very crisp with no over travel, breaks at consistently @ 3 lbs. Sales for under $200.00

I have not tried other triggers, but I use the Geiselle National Match. It is hard to imagine anything better, but as I said have not tried the others. A very experienced BR shooter shot my AR with the Geiselle and was amazed. It is not 2 oz BR trigger, but he told me don't touch the trigger, it was excellent. Expensive yes, for about $130 more, you can have something that may very well enhance your performances at long range. I don't regret the money I spent on the Geiselle NM. It does take some time to tune it properly, but instructions are pretty good.

I like jewells be cause they are so easy to adjust. but for a normal service rifle rock rivers work great.

I have 2 Geiselle triggers and they are quite good. That said the Ex-treme triggers are the best I've ever used. Yes, they are a little more money on the front end, but they have total reset capability that I can't say about the Geiselle. It's all a matter of what you are going to do with the rifle, and just how picky you are about the trigger. All my 2-stage triggers break like a glass rod, and I like that.

The only other I personally enjoy is the jewell which can had at great scott shooters supply,he is on this site.He sold me a couple for right around 199.00 to my door or less.I like the jewell for easy poundage adjustment and the 2 stages.The only thing is its a job the first time around to install one for someone with no experience.I have a chip mcormick on my ar-10 and it is a pretty decent trigger for around 150.00,like the other poster said ,it is self contained and easy to install like the ar gold and the timney which is also the same.I love the jewells so much I have them on 4 of my ar's.You can safely go down to ounces with that trigger.

I have Geiselle triggers on all three of my AR lowers. You know, buy once, cry once . . . buy three times, cry more!

I have one Geiselle and it is outstanding and I have never found anything better - the down side is that it was expensive - everything else about it is great.

I have a Jard adjustable and it is the best I have found for under $150. The Jard takes a lot of time to adjust but once mastered it is quite good.

I had a JP Enterprises comp. trigger on my varmint/backup AR for a while. It was $115 well spent IMO. Took some tuning to get "just right" but in the end it was pretty crisp and delivered a single stage ~ 3lb pull. But I quickly learned what happens when you have a 2-stage trigger on the CMP service rifle AR and single stage on the other. OOPS! So I swapped out the JPE for a RRA. It was a slight step backwards, the RRA isn't as crisp and has a little creep. It will be replaced with a Geissele this winter. I don't mean to bag on the RRA but like I said in an earlier post, it's still way better than OEM. The JPE is a good cheap alternative if you want SS and don't mind fiddling around on the install. Mind the disconnector tuning, I got greedy and had to start over.

Thanks for all the useful feedback fellas! I appreciate the honest opinions here and not just an arrogance regarding one brand or another. I asked this question on another forum and it basically started a fight!

Anyhow, I think I have some better direction as to what triggers to look into when I have the cash to swap it out. I'm not at a place where I can buy a Geiselle, but it does sound like I can get better performance than the mil-spec for under $150.

Timney 3lb if you want single stage, Geiselle super semi-auto if you wan two stage. JP if you are on a tighter budget. All 3 of these are great triggers. I prefer the single stage Timney. I run it on my 3gun AR and I will put one on my 6mmAR varmint rifle.

Put the Timney 3.0 lb single stage in my daughter's PSE TAC Elite crossbow today. It's head, shoulders and torso above the factory. Easy to install, too.
