I was in a Gun store here in the Tampa area last weekend and it was all but empty.
Empty of people or guns?

I love my para p14 ltd (Canadian). I bet I have put at least 250k rounds through it in my ISPC days.
It did require some new parts over the years, but I expected that shooting 500 to a thousand rounds a week.
I picked up a second one used for under 500 bucks. They are heavy and require large hands
Back in my early days there was a lot of not so great 1911's out there with softer than needed slides and frames along with inferior barrels that became inoperable in a short time. Now with international manufacturing standards things have gotten better per quality. If in the future an upgrade like new fitted barrel and bushing or just a link and bushing could be a consideration then a person might look on the cheaper side of availability.I’ve got a friend that’s wanting to buy a .45 ACP, just for punching holes in paper and the occasional zombie. I’m no help as I’m a revolver S&W guy. What’s y’alls opinion on what to buy/what to avoid? And he wants a full-size, no compacts. Thanks.
Interesting, an unusual failure.I should also comment on the HK USP. I bought one of the early models. Grip was a bit fat, but it was EXTREMELY accurate. Guys with custom 1911s couldn't believe how accurate. I won bets with that thing. Magazines were very nice. I really liked that gun, though it was pretty bulky.
But, after a few thousand rounds, the firing pin assemly broke, and the back half of that blasted rearward, cracking off a piece of the slide near the hammer. I know it sounds impossible but that really happened (oh and that metal piece hit me in the face). Gun went back to HK USA, which sent it back to Germany, because they had never seen such a failure. About a month later I got the gun back with a new slide and firing pin. The new slide had no serial number because that is all done by machine, and apparently there was not way to customize the process to put an OLD serial number on the slide. There was a note from HK engineer saying that, as far as they knew, this was the only customer HK USP in the world without a serial number on the slide....
I have a Sig P 220, and just love it. Accuracy is excellent.A lot of great responses, and I sent him a link
so he could read all of y’all’s responses. I know he likes the Springfield Range Officer and is partial to the Sig P220. There’s been a lot of input on the Springfield RO, but not much on the P220 (maybe I overlooked it). Any thoughts on the Sig P220?
