which major manufacturer (to reduce cost) produces A 1:9 24" Barrel in 7mm-08

hi all i had previously posted looking for a manufacturer that makes a 7mm-08 but drew a blank on the 1:8 24" bit which is recommended by hornady for the 162 gr a-max

so i'm going to have to look at the 180gr 7mm Berger VLD 1:9 twist, the remington 700 sps comes close

Remington's 700 sps with 24" barrel and a 9.1/4 twist (yes ill replace the stock) http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-sps.aspx

but can i do better after all i'm going to need a new stock and probably trigger which will double the base price

thanks jesse

Pac-Nor makes these...

7mm (.284")
3 groove 8" 9" 10" 11" 12" 13" 14" 15"
5 groove 7" 8" 9" 9.50" 9.52" 10"
6 groove 9.52" 11" 12" 14"
Polygonal 8" 9" 10"

And like stated before. You don't NEED a 1-8tw. A 9 will shoot them just fine

This is 5 shots in my 24" 1-9tw 7-08. From ershaw

You should worry more about throat than twist. I don't think the 7-08 has enough boiler for the 175/180 bullets unless 24-2500 tops will keep you happy. That slow and your going to be losing any 7mm ballistic advantage your looking for anyway.

If your dead set on 8twist. Why not just buy an action for 350 or so and get the barrel trigger and bottom metal you want to start? Are you positive you'll find the 162 amax? I couldn't find them decent for 2 years until just recent for my rem mag (which is a 1-9.25tw). What if you decide to shoot Sierra or Nosler?

You might look here from time to time:

I think all the makers can make what you are looking for, might be 3 or so months lead time for special orders. A #3 or #4 profile would serve you well, for a sporter.

Edit If what you find is longer than 24", don't worry about it. Get your gunsmith to create a case gauge with the cut off portion and the chamber reamer he used for your chamber. They are handy.....

Most manufactures of fine barrels make a 9, 8.5 and 8 twist 7mm barrel. Remington is set on 9.25 for some silly reason. It will not stabilize anything in the 168 and up class, unless the velocity is low. The 9 twist will stabilize the 162 AMAX without issue.

THANKS 280nosler, browning offering is 8:1 with a 22" barrel that seems just to short and 9.25 in 24" from remington in 24" is the right length but wrong twist, yet i still can't find a barrel from a major manufacture

I shoot 162 gr A-MAX in both my long range bench rest gun and my VZ-24 based hunting rifle with a cut down WWII 7X57 barrel.

Both guns have 1 in 9 twist and I shoot the 284 WIN at 2950 fps in the bench rest gun and 2650 in the 7X57. The 284 WIN is good enough for me to win local matches and the hunting rifle will shoot very good groups at least out to 300yds. The hunting rifle groups are 1 MOA or less.

To make up for boiler room, try RL-17. I use that powder in both my 7mm rifles for higher MV and less pressure.

Get you one of them there prefits from Northlanders.....If you don't like it youll have no problem getting most of your moneys back. Gotta 2nd that 9 twist man mine stabilized anything I put in it in a 7SAUM

Very Reeespectfully

You aren't going to find any difference other that finicky seating depth with a 8 twist barrel. Here you go

I had ann8.5 twist on my savage 7-08. Hated it.
