Which is more important?-- Load development

why shoot 5 shot groups to start? If they do not group in two shots, then it will not group in 5.

Here is a thread that walks you thru a couple techniques but outlines the basic steps to take no matter how you do it.

Your on the forum and looking for accuracy so stick around as nobody is too green.
What you are seeing is the different approaches shooters take to find the perfect load for there rifle. As you have already seen there is definitely many ways to come up with the same results.
Stephen and Hipshot like one method while I and Lane like a different method.
If you had a huge piece of paper and shot your load in 0.1 grain increments while moving your point of aim 1 inch to the left after each shot your paper would look like a large staircase with several landings on it.Near the top of those landings you will usually find your best accuracy.
Some guys will shoot 3 or 5 shot groups at each increment while others will fire 1 shot and move around a little once they find an interesting point.
Post away any questions you have as there are some very serious shooters on this forum who will get you on target.

Excellent point! " More then one way to do something wrong and more then one way to do something right". At the heart of the discussion is the work you do with the case/chamber? do not put the cart before the horse! Sizing method, bullet seating depth, harmonic nodes, load development methods are all moot if the case is not in correct dimension with the particular chamber. If your rifle chamber is out-of-round what good is neck sizing or bullet seating depth going to do? If you can not put into check your resizing die and method how do you know? Build the case first then burn up components proving out your methods. Personal point of view. I find it interesting so many find this discussion interesting! Wally we are all in the same boat! JimmyO has the tools to put it all together! Wish jimmyO the best and all of you. Lane
