Which holster for 1911? Thoughts?

I have used a Bianchi shoulder holster for carrying a full sized 45 for the last 30 or a bit more years, and also in a Bianchi belt holster, so I can attest to their durability. Rosen and Sparks are also great if you want a leather holster, and I've also done well with Galco leather for compact 9mms and can't see any reason why the version for a full sized 45 wouldn't work as well. I also have a few of the cheap fabric holsters (mostly Uncle Mike's), and I have to say that they have done fine for the uses for which they were purchased.

What about suppressed 1911's? Any recommendations for the high site post?

I tried a half design once with a fiber optic front post and it kept snagging on the way out. I think I'd like one that covers the front site.

Not meaning to step on the thread, I'm interested in a holster also.
Bravo Concealment.

The type of holster you chose will depend on the type of use. If you are in a car a lot traveling, then you should consider going with a cross draw holster. Trying to pull from a strong side holster while seated and in a restricted vehicle is impossible. Like trying to pull your wallet out of your back pocket while sitting behind the wheel. But for general carry I like the Galco Pancake.
I carry a 1911 with a 5" barrel, 45ACP. I have tried many types of holsters and have always come back to my Galco Pancake. This holster is so comfortable to wear for long periods of time and conceals that big frame better than any other holster I have tried. It snugs up so nice next to you that it feels a part of you.

Hope that this helps.

I had a number of different holsters for a 1911. My favorite, by far, was a Galco Yaqui slide.

Please note that this is shown carried in the correct 'Condition 1'.
I know the OP wanted something to cover the slide. But I carry this for the LWC and full ride as well. Quick draw, snug to the body and so basic. You are my new hero.

The Fletch is a great holster. I didn't want the strap and have found the Combat to hold the pistol in place equally as well. But it is a matter of taste. Both will provide excellent service.
I have had my combat for 8 years now and despite trying many others afterwards, still find it to be the most comfortable. Although I do like my cross draw which I wear when I am doing a lot of traveling. But it isn't the best for concealment.

I do find that holsters in general wear on the finish of my good pistols and I'm not real pleased with that. My Kimber I'm not to worried about as they drop in value the moment you walk out the store anyway ( not a big Kimber fan as you may guess) I would not holster a High end 1911

I traded a ferris lawnmower that cost me $1200 that I run (semi commercially, mowing isn' my full time job) for 10 years for the master carry custom with crimson trace grips. :)

I have a beautiful Milt Sparks 55BN belt holster. Nice for carry, but it fits a little tight on my S&W 1911.

For regular range use, when you are drawing and holstering a lot, I like the Fobus holsters made in Israel. These are nearly perfectly molded from polymer with no grab spots. Because they fit so well, they draw easy yet hold securely. I prefer the Fobus polymer to Kydex material. Nice thing about the Fobus is you can find them for under $25.00. My Milt Sparks cost about $100 many years ago.

I carry my vintage colt, wilson combat, coonan and nighthawk in leather holsters. and when I finally get a cabot i'll carry it too. i'll let somebody else suffer from the loss of value once i'm gone.:D

I totally get it Dusty, I love vintage Colts especially NM and war guns with correct parts and numbers. Your right on being a caretaker of a Colt - it's your turn
Best Regards
Jim

I also have a ww2 production govt marked colt. it was turned into a NM pistol in the vietnam era. I am the caretaker for it now being entrusted to that job by the team member himself. it had some junky sights added to it during the 80's by a son that im guessing is the reason I became the caretaker. I have been wanting to put originals back on it since the 90's but havent got to it just yet.

Do you scout the gun shows for parts? or recruit?
J
i'm not much on listening to guffeys trying to sell their 22 shells and steel case pre-war ammo. I havent ever shook the bushes looking for the correct sights and never really trusted a gun show peddler to tell me what is right- its just a back burner thing I guess you could say. i'd love to fix it but just never got around to it!! do you have a picture of the correct sights?

I'll let you know next time I get it out. like I said it went from a ww2 trench model to the armory to be issued to NM team so it has tons of mixed up parts and i'm not sure the serial number will help since it was changed 30yrs after it was built. but those sights on the cover there are what came on it originally i'm 100% sure

yes it has all that but has some high adjustable i think williams sights on it that a guy did in the 80's. everything else is straight as issued because the guy is still alive and remembers it all.
