Which Hand Primer Do You Use?

The consenus for neck Turners looks to be the K&M whose hand primer do you use?

For my 6BR= K&M. oreverything else RCBS hand primer. The K&M gives you the ability to make some adjustments. You can determine how far you want the handle to come back.

Kind of hard to discribe. But both the K&M and Sinclair versions are very similar. Main difference I can tell is that the Sinclair one comes in stainless steel.

The K&M 'adjustment' is simply indicator zero. With the indicator zero'd to the primer/pocket depth, you seat the primer with .002" of crush.

The Sinclair does nothing like this.

mikecr, I don’t' have the indicator on mine. i simply adjusted mine to a position that I like for repeatability.

I use the plain old K&M for serious stuff and the Lee Auto prime for everything else.....

K&M for BR and Lee for varmint. It would kill me to load 2500 rounds with my K&M in one day like I do with my Lee.

I have an old Lee that I really like and I bought a new one for my range loading box. I used the new one for the first time today at the range. The new one must have a longer plunger because the primer is fully seated with just a small amount of finger lever travel. Since the mechanical advantage is smaller at that point in the travel you have terrible feel . Tomorrow I will compare all the old and new bits side by side and see what is up.

Have used the LEE Auto prime for Thousands and thousands of rounds without a problem.
Have heard tales that you shouldnt use Fedral primers in them but have used thousands of these also without a problem have used it that much have just about warn a slot in the cover must be time for a new one.

That's easy enough to fix just measure and shorten the plunger a smidge. If you shorten tom much, just add a shim on the other end. Been there...:crazy:

Lee. Cheap, don't feel bad if I break one, loose one or give one away. Keep one ready to go in large rifle and small rifle. The only thing I don't use it for is the Rigby and thats because the shell just plain won't fit.

The stuff about not using Federal primer was a pissing contest between the two companies.

Since all primers need to be seated fully with a slight crush I don't worry a lot about seating pressure unless there is significant variance in the amount of pressure required to get the primer into the pocket, ie, the pocket is getting loose from hot loads. Or whatever.

I don't worry about it too much having achieved single digit ES/SD with Lapua brass and rudinemtary brass prep, as in iron the necks, chamfer, neck size, load, fire. Oh yeah go/no go gauge for case length because you can never tell....

I have a K&M hand primer and it works OK. However, I also have an RCBS bench priming tool that has almost as much fee but is a lot faster. The tube will hold 100 primers,I think) and it dosen't kill your thumb like the hand tool does. I find myself using the RCBS more and more and can see no difference in my scores or group size.
Just another option for thought.
