Which Borescope???

Hawkeye borescopes seem to come in 3 flavors, a fixed focus, straight eyepiece; a variable focus, straight eyepiece; and a variable focus, angled eyepiece. The fixed focus version is least expensive, while the angled eyepiece version is the most expensive. Will the fixed focus version serve most needs for inspecting barrels? Or do I need to jump to one of the variable focus versions?

Thanks,

Cort

Cort: I've bought 2 Hawkeye borescopes over the past 5 years. Used the first for 3 1/2 years then gave it to my son, and bought another. Both are the 17" Deluxe focusing, in the hard case. Price, delivered to my door, with the $75 rebate, from Lester Bruno was $620 each. Tried the 90 degree eyepiece but because of the large diameter bell housing, had a lot of trouble trying to get it to clear the high cheekpieces on several of my stocks, like the Bell & Carlson Medalist's, and for that reason it was sold. Both of the models that I've bought have met all my needs. Have never had any issues, and with their use I've opened up a whole new world of knowledge about what's going on inside my barrels---- no guesswork involved. ;)

Look around on E-bay.

Years ago I got a great deat on a used medical

scope ( Shott ) with an angle adjustable head.

It's 7mm so works best in a .30 cal barrel.

18" long.

These were used to look inside peoples unmentionable places for stones and such.

Just don't get one that needs tiny grain of wheat bulbs for illumination.

You want one that uses an external fiber optic source.

Steve
