Which 22 rifle

CZ 457 sporter vs Tikka T1x - I have owned both as truck guns, I ended up staying with 457 Tikka. The CZ has a 24" barrel vx the Tikka having a 20" barrel, the 24" barrel on the CZ made it awkward to use from the confines of a truck whereas the Tikka is much handier inside the truck.

If you decide on a CZ 457 take a look at what is called the Scout model, it is a 16" barrel but the downside is that it has a shorter length of pull.

Coming from a fan of CZ rifles, I would choose the Tikka in this application. Both should meet the accuracy requirements, but like @boltfluter i have a hard time beating up a nice wood stock.

Same problem here. I hate banging my wood stocks.

Hey Feller, if you want a wooden one you need to pick up an old 513T Remington, I see them from time to time around 500 for a real nice one. I've had several over the years and every one would shoot right with my Win 52 if you do your part... John

I have had an itch for a different 22 lately but do not know which one I would like.
I have had a Bergara .It shot very well but did not like it.
I have been looking at CZ varmint and the Tikka. Looks like the cz would be a good one because I like wood stocks and not really fond of the plastic on the Tikka . What I really like is functionality and accuracy , which brings me to you guys.
This gun will be in the truck most of the time for squirrels ,crows and such but it will be on the range a lot too.
Pros,cons would be very helpful in helping me make up my mind.
PS: I do not want to spend $1000.00+ for it just to throw in the truck.

I didn't like the stock on my Tikka, it shot decent but I just didn't like the way it looked so I just ordered a Boyds thumbhole varmint and changed it out, easy peasy.

find a good used Remington 541-S. super accurate and a blast to shoot. Not picky about ammo-will shoot anything.

I have had my hands on a CZ 457 AT One recently that my buddy bought. I believe it's a 16.5" barrel. It shot decently right out of the box. He bought it new from some place off of Gun Broker. $700.00, pretty nice laminated stock. From what I understand there are no pillars in the stock.

For a truck gun, I'd go for a Savage MK II FV-SR. Accurate, takes a beating, and prolly less than half the cost of a Tikka or CZ. Use the saved $$ for a tax stamp and a down payment towards a can.
Boyd's makes wood stocks that you can use to make it sexy.
Or, find a Hi Standard Sport King - those things are balls-on out to 50 yards, farther if you're a pistol savant.
Addendum: if it wasn't so beautiful, I'd use my 1941 Remington 550 (no dash) in my truck. I picked up a peep sight for it, waiting on installation.

I recently bought a Savage B22 FV- SR 16 inch barrel to put a suppressor on. After mounting the scope I was zeroing it at 50 yards with CCI 40G standard velocity ammo and was quite pleased with the accuracy. It put 10 shots well inside an inch. This is was off the bench. The accu trigger was pretty good also. For under 400$ I felt I got my money's worth.

I have the CZ 457 Varmint MTR and love it. That being said, I would hate to lug it afield. Get a good cheaper truck rifle and an expensive one for the range.

Ruger 10/22. HUGE amount of factory offerings. HUGE amount of aftermarket support.

Could go with a Ruger American or M77/22 if you wish for a bolt rifle as well.

You can’t beat the value of a Mark II! Mine will do this all day with CCI Standard target. I believe I payed about $175 for the synthetic stock model then payed $150-200 for a Boyd’s take off

Never owned one but have always heard they shot extremely well. However, last I looked anything decent was well over a grand. Gorgeous rifles too. I couldn't leave one in the truck.

Most of the Remington 500 series are very accurate and affordable. I have a 581 I got for 250 that is very accurate for small game.
