Which 2 stage trigger?

What options do I have for a good 2 stage trigger for a bolt action rifle? I'm saving up to buy my first custom rifle. I plan on using a Kauger Viper short action, and will have it in a chassis of some kind. I'm up in the air on what trigger to use. I'm not a BR shooter and don't need a 6 oz trigger (but I have used them and understand their worth). I was absolutely ruined on triggers while shooting Anschutz free rifles in 3 position small bore MANY years ago, so I absolutely insist that the rifle have an adjustable 2 stage trigger. Just not sure what all my options are. I've handled the Trigger Tech Diamond. It's okay, but I'd prefer something that can have a noticeably shorter 2nd stage. My guess is that the 2 extremes for me will be the Trigger Tech Diamond on the economy end, and a (out of my price range) Anschutz trigger on the other end (assuming a hanger exists that will allow it to work with the Viper action). What options to I have that are in-between these two?

I will second this. I have 2 and they are excellent. I like it better than my Bix Competition. Buy once, cry once.

I have owned, and suggest, the Trigger Tech Diamond, the green one.

As I mentioned, I don't care for the Trigger Tech. I'd have no problems putting one on a factory rifle, but if I'm sinking the money into a custom action, custom barrel, and a chassis, then their trigger is sub-par. It would be like going out an buying a new Ferrari then buying a pair of all season tires for it.

The BnA 2 stage looks promising. I'll give them a call to better understand the difference between the TacSport and the Competition trigger to see which one would suit me better.

Check out the TacSport PRO - X. Cheaper than the competition... less finicky. Goes down to 3.5oz pull.

I like the Huber 2 stage trigger with 1.5 # total pull weight. The Huber is extremely reliable and tough. The only drawback for some is they are not adjustable but he makes several pull weights. Once I determine pull weight I don’t go adjusting triggers any further on a particular rifle.

CG Jackson and Tubb 2 stage triggers also have excellent reputation. May be fitment issues in some applications with the Tubb trigger though. Know what you are getting.

A conversation with Kauger prior to buying a random trigger would be a good first step.

Had the TT Diamond and Bix Tacsport Pro, I like the Bix better. I like a little over travel which the TT doesn’t have. In addition I like the fact you can take the Bix apart and clean it yourself and they have different sear heights to tune it to your action.

I have several Ex-treme triggers that are very nice, but my B&A triggers are the best I have ever used. I'm a knuckle dragging prone shooter so 12-14 oz. suits me just fine.

The Anschutz is pretty bulky and may not fit a chassis even if you find a suitable hanger. I have CG Jackson type Extreme triggers and like them. Have heard great things about the Bix 2- stages. If you do not need an adjustable shoe, you may be able to locate a Super 700 trigger by Geissele (sp?).

The Anschutz has ruined you for all of the above though.

Yes it has. On the up side, it's been over 25 years since I ran an Anschutz trigger though, so maybe I'm embellishing them to myself...

This rifle will likely be the foundation of any rifle that I use going forward, so I do want a trigger that's adjustable. It will have a Remage style barrel and it will likely start off with a 20 Tac barrel for prairie dogs. If I ever find myself wanting to hit something with more authority at distance whether it be for targets or fur, I'm fine with swapping barrels out and even getting a lighter stock/chassis as the need arises.

In all reality, I will likely end up with a TriggerTech Diamond. My main thing on a 2 stage trigger is the length of the 2nd stage (short) and overtravel (non-existent), and I haven't found anyone who could say that any of the other triggers on the market are perceivably better. I'd love to find a Tubb that I could compare side to side, but I've not found anyone in my area that has one.
