Where's the music?

Merry Christmas All.

I have some free time this morning as it's just my wife and I here today so after watching a rerun of one of the Mecum auto auctions I went out to my shop to assemble the last annealer I have in stock until the new sheet metal arrives next month. Thought I'd listen to some Christmas music while working so I flipped on my radio and began roaming the AM and FM bands trying to find some. Well after going from one end to the other on both bands I found exactly one station playing Christmas music and I live in a major metropolitan area. I have to say that it saddens me greatly to see exactly how far our society has devolved. Is it just me or does anyone else here feel the same way? I feel that because of things like this that getting into the "Christmas Spirit" is going to become more and more difficult in years to come. I feel very sorry for our children and theirs. We're letting the "magic" slip away from us I'm afraid.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.
Mike

I agree in many ways. But I am also recognizing that this Covid thing has stripped down many of the "add-on" stuff to Christmas, and is causing me to focus on the reality of Jesus much more than usual. In times of difficulty, when the world goes it's own way, worship is the appropriate response.
Merry Christmas to all, and may Jesus inhabit your holiday as he inhabited our world at his Incarnation.

There are many other multi-hour playlists on YouTube available now. Just search "Christmas Music Playlist".

These are videos that will play dozens of songs without interruption. Just like a radio -- you can run them via your TV if you have a web connection.

We have several stations in our big metro area playing Christmas music 24/7 starting Nov 1 (normally starting Thanksgiving day) - many of which are the classics (Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra...etc). Normally played in 2 or 3 hour blocks without any commercials before Christmas. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - played 36 hours continuously without interruption.

To many have been lead astray with all the PC crap i.e. Happy Holidays, etc. instead of the standard old fashioned "Merry Christmas", etc. And of course music is out of date too them. Unless it is rap and crap.

My favorite Christmas song come off of Steve Earle's Copperhead Road album, "Nothing But a Child". Enjoy talk conservative radio, but yesterday stumbled on a liberal station out of Chicago, only to learn anti BLM people some where, were armed with hunting rifles getting ready to attack the protesters. Guess where that may go. Heard a couple of humorous songs on country radio.

Internet radio has just about anything you might want to hear. Our receiver is set up for Internet and we listen to Internet Radio all the time.

Hope your Christmas was wonderful Mike and I'd like to tell you that the Annealer I purchased from you is still ticking along, great machine. Mine was one of the first you sold, as a matter of fact you shipped the unit to me as a trial unit (marketing thing I think) and I later paid you and I couldn't be happier.
Have a prosperous New Year!!

I’ll be honest and say that by Christmas Day I’m kinda burnt out on Christmas music. Seems like it starts earlier every year...I travel a lot and between hotels, restaurants, airports, elevators, and anywhere else that has a speaker it seems like at least a solid month of nothing but Christmas music. I don’t consider myself a Scrooge by any means but if it wasn’t played sooo much for sooo long I think I would enjoy it more.

The Christmas music I really like is from Mannheim Steamroller. I've heard it used as background in a lot of places. If you've never heard of them, look them up on the net and sample some.

MS is terrific. I first heard Fresh Aire 1 and 2 in 1981. Been my favorite "album" ever since. Good call Itchy!

Snert - a friend "exposed" me to MS in the early 80's. I've got Fresh Aire 1-8 and 3 Christmas albums. Looks like they have more. Plus a number of others from American Grammaphone.

Back in the early 80s I made a 6hr recording of nothing but Christmas music I like. With my auto reverse open reel deck it lasts all day and then some - commercial and interruption free.
