Where to shoot?

Hello everyone,

Newcomer to the forum here. Glad to be apart of this to learn and read about other people's experiences from all around.

I'm curious as to if there is land that people are legally aloud to target shoot on. I've read a little bit about BLM land and if anyone is experienced and knowledgeable about it or if there is other options where you can shoot.

I live in northern Delaware and trying to set up a little trip with a buddy of mine to go camp and shoot a little bit. Am willing to drive out west if needed. We're not hunters so that's not what the trip is about. The gun ranges around my way are pretty strict and we want to be able to actually shoot our guns farther than 50-100 yards.

The guys on YouTube do it, so it's gotta be possible. Right?

If you have any info on it let me know!! Thanks

There are few places you can go and just shoot indicrininatly, nor should you do that. There are ranges that shoot to 1000 yds within several hours of you, requires a bit of homework.I must say, your question as posed makes me a bit suspicious, but you might start by looking at the IBS websight.

I can assure you there is nothing to be suspicious about. My buddy and I have been shooting together for the last 5 years or so, and he has been shooting much, much longer.

I dont want to go out anywhere and break any laws or do anything to get myself in trouble. I like my guns and want to keep them haha. Just watching videos of people going out and shooting at their own discretion makes me a bit jealous and was simply wondering if there is a place I could do the same, legally. Part of the plan is to camp and hike a bit too thats why I was asking about more open land as opposed to shooting ranges.

Welcome to the Forum! I too looked for places to shoot further. Atglen and Bridgeville are two ranges you can try to join. Bridgeville goes to 1000 and Atglen goes to 500. Getting out to open land in the West will be tough this time of year.
Check the weather reports in Wyoming right now! Good luck!

Wyoming is a bit far for me. I was thinking Ohio, maybe Utah if someone suggested something they thought was awesome. I wouldn't mind driving south either just going too far west is too much drive time to make it worth it.

Also this isn't going to happen right away, I was thinking early spring

Unless my geography is really rusty, I think you'll find that Utah is a bit further away than Wyomming. :p

You can look for BLM, or you can look at National land, like Forest, or Grasslands. Both have public gun use in certain areas and following certain rules. I've not been that far east much, so I can't make any local suggestions, but that's how I figure out where to go shooting on public land. To make entirely sure, it never hurts to call the Ranger Station for the place you're looking to go and double-check with them that it's ok.

Here's an example:

No, your geography is correct. For the life of me idk why I thought Utah bordered Ohio, especially considering I've driven to Nebraska 2 times in the last 3 years ‍♂️ I was thinking Indiana when I said Utah.

But yes, I definitely plan on doing my research before I go out exploring and shooting. I just need to be pointed in the right direction, thanks!
