Where to get military brass processed

Hello All,

I had heard about River Valley Ordnance and talked to them last September, but now I check the web site and call the contact # and it says full. I sent an E-Mail and came back unable to deliver. From a search I found " Nikki57@sbcglobal.net" for a contact and no answer so far. Any other processing people out there that do this work.

Thank You

my partner sent a bunch of brass alll once fired 77gr BLH match fired from match AR15's, away about more than a year ago. Long story short, the founder died and the folks that were doing the work did a HORRID job!! when he called to ask what happened. he got the story. The staff processing the brass are not shooters or reloaders appearently. the necks looked like they were finished with a bench grinder or the asphalt of the street. cases were bent out of spec, trimmed crooked, and lengths were all over the place! My partner asked about some partial refund or credit, to no avail. Then he offered to pay the shipping to the next person that ships 10K+ once fired military cases to them and he would just take the new turn in brass back and take the loss. There was no comment. I think at one point they were a great service, but not so much anymore. I would recommend skipping this company altogether until they gett back up to speed. I dont like to say negative things about companies or individuals but this is one of those times to speak the truth.

There's not that much to it, you'll just need a decrimping tool in addition to your usual reloading gear. Here's a short article about just this topic: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2010/05/basics-prepping-military-brass-for.html

I have tried the method described by German and found that I liked cutting the crimp out better. Maybe I didn't swage it correctly, dunno. If you don't have too many pieces to do you can cut the crimp out of your .223 brass by using your case mouth deburring tool. If you have too many pieces for cutting by hand or swagging you can keep trying Jeff Bartlett at gibrass.com or River Valley Ordinance. I know they both have the equipment to handle large quantities of brass.

German,

This is probably an inappropriate place for this, but I sure appreciate your comments and insight.

I also access the Rifleman's Journal first when I am looking for answers.

The History: Historic Shooting Books is a fun place to visit.

Thanks again and sorry for interrupting.

Okay, I'll jump in on this...I don't consider this unsolicited advice, so here goes: I sent River Valley Ordnance (RVO) 17,000 pieces of once-fired match 5.56 brass (a mix of BHA Match, LC XX, and WCC XX), all of which was 77 grain match brass fired in match chambers. This was sent in August of 2008. As January 2009 came around, I called because I was deploying. First lesson learned: Nikki will never pick up the phone or answer an email. I know for a fact on several occasions the line was busy for several minutes and then it rang with no answer. She promised the brass before I left for deployment, but it never showed. Off I headed to the sandbox, and emailed I few times while away. Upon my return I began the hard press, and worked out an exchange...she could keep 7k of brass in exchange for processing the other 10k. Short story long, I got the brass back after 20 months, and it looked like crap. 80% of the necks were cut at a 10 degree angle, and cut with a piece of flint. Tried the aforementioned "deal," to which I (surprise!) received no response. I have no problem putting this out there whenever I see the RVO come up. Tom, the original owner, passed away (RIP), but Nikki is not fit to continue the business, although she will still happily take your brass. Consider yourself forewarned. I have since set myself up with a volume processing setup to do my own...after the initial investment, it's easy and pays for itself. Good luck!

Last I heard, Dick Whiting processes match brass to support the West Virginia juniors. I haven't used him myself, but have heard nothing but praise for the quality of the work. The work is done by shooters, primarily in the off-season.

I've sent my brass to Mr. Whiting two years now.......comes back simply perfect. Can't say enough good about it. I used RVO for years, and even when they were good, they weren't this good.

I've heard good reports about Dick's service also. Wouldn't hesitate to try him either. I knew there was someone else, but I couldn't think of who it was, a more common problem as I grow older.

Give Danny a call. Great service and prices, less than a week from door to door.
