Where is all the powder?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I know , be vigilante and keep looking everywhere.Truth is , is when I check PVI and haven't had anything but a slight asst for months, something is really wrong.I am tired that it is hoarders. They haven't listed squat and grafs and recobs and on and on.If the powder companys are running 24 hours a day then PVI should get regular large and small shipments. My local wholesaler has been getting some but all the rest, nothing.Sorry for the rant but it makes me frustrated that the govt is holding all the shipments up from foreign manufacturers to starve the supply. There is something going on here besides just plain old so called hoarding.

what powders have you been looking for? I have been seeing just about everything but Varget and N133

do you look here? http://www.gunbot.net/reloading/Powder/

Not sure what you need, but I have 3 different VV powders including N133 I no longer need. If I can help you, maybe we could find a trucker to get it your direction.

Gonna need some powder soon here, with the heat on my supply of Gold Bond is running low.

A lot of it has been going to the ammo manufactureres because they have been running wide open for a long time now. However, it appears that our sales of ammo is declining and if that's typical then some of that powder ought to be trickling back into our stream soon. Maybe?

Just a short drive .............

I would love to see proof that say varget is making it through customs brokers in a timely manner. There is way more to this than just a shortage. Our epa closed the very last lead smelting plant and it came straight from the top.It was the only way to sneak it by the American people. You don't think that the same goes with customs?

I just stopped at a local Holliday food and sport store near where I live and they had at least 20, 1# jugs of Varget on the shelve. I also purchased 8 # from a different Holliday about 2 weeks ago so it does seem to be appearing more often. I have not seen it online anywhere though. I would like to find some N135 for sale though. That stuff seems more elusive then Varget.

My local Ace Hardware gets a mixed lot of Hodgdon, Allient and IMR. never know what will be on the shelf.2-3 of us stop by when we can and call the others to let them know. Varget camein this wweekend and it was gone... This is in Phoenix.

I said it before and I'll say it again, this isn't ever going to get better as long as this man is in the white house, and if you heard Hillary Clinton in a recent interview and she becomes president then there will be no end in sight. These people want to infringe on what we do and love and folks are buying everything up out of fear. I can't find powder where I live either and I depend on the online places like PV, so instead of spending on components I send some of that money to the NRA, that's all we have and get out and vote.

I also find it kind of funny that several vendors have announced that the price of powder has increased for them so they upped the price 30-50% on varying powders yet you can still find sites that sell it at the old price but they rarely have any in stock. I understand supply and demand but when places are announcing an increase while other stores just keep selling it as it comes in I tend to think gouging for the sake of making money and trying to make it seem official and not their choice. The capitalist in me says let them make the money off of those that need the powder but the pissed off kid in me says that's not right.

Sorry to disagree with you Jon. But, it is the hoarders, and there's really nothing mysterious about it. When any of those dealers you just mentioned gets a new shipment in and it disappears within a couple of hours, who do you think is buying it all.....Barak, Michelle, and Hillary? Yes, Obama and the Democrats are to blame for maintaining the hysteria, but we are our own worst greedy enemies. It really pisses me off when I see so many classified ads of the jackasses selling 10 boxes of bullets or 5 cans of powder that they didn't need to buy in the first place.

Nothing but impulsive stupidity. ..... 1 1/2 years of it thus far!

Found 8 pounds of IMR 4895 for $250.00 but walked away. I had hoped that a gun shop on a military base would not jack up the price that way.

I am of the feeling that if Hillary got in we would be in for more of the same if not worse then $250.00 may end up being a bargain.

Yesterday Runnings had 8208 XBR, IMR 4064, IMR 4320, IMR 4895, IMR 4350, IMR 4320, 700X, 800X, H-1000, H-4831 sc, H-4831, H-4350, H-335, BLC-2, Leverevolution so things are looking better here anyway....

Too bad that lead smelting plant hasn't been making bullet lead for a long time. Bullet lead has been imported for many years already.

The problem with this post is this....Say a vendor sells 10,000 pounds of powder a year...at a reasonable price. He has been selling it at a "resonable price" because it alowed him enough profit to keep the doors open and make a living and sevice his/her customers. Now, he/she may only have 2000 pounds a year to sell. What, exactly, is he supposed to do?

I think it's a combination of things but hoarders are a BIG part of it. I live near a Gander Mountain in Houston, TX. They get 22 rimfire ammo every week on the same day. An hour before the store opens, people are lined up to get it and they buy the maximum amount that the store will sell them. A clerk at the store told me its the same people every week. They don't want to keep selling all the ammo to the same people but they have no choice. It's the same with powder and everything else. Everyone is scared so they buy as much as they possibly can. This is not an issue that is going away, ever. The liberal government is fighting as hard as they can to get rid of guns and sadly, they have the votes to stay in office. Not to be negative, but I predicted years ago that we will NEVER have another republican president and I stand behind that.

Another problem when the LGS receives only 2000 pounds a year, for example, is it arrives in dribs and drabs and the owner has to pay the Hazmat on each shipment. This increases the price per pound, the owner doesn't make a dime on this and it irritates the customer. It makes a bad deal worse.
