where do you hold on a black f class target ?

shooting 300 yards F class target do you guys hold on the X or maybe a six o'clock hold because it is difficult to see the X on the black target ?

If no wind then hold center. On the 300yd target, don’t count on seeing the X. It will be covered by pasters after a couple proper shots! A 3 or 9 o’clock wind could have you holding on the 9 to hit center.

There is a fella on here that shoots the f/class 300yd target very well (HighPowerfclass)I would get ahold of him and ask him what his secret sauce is...:D

Depends a little on the range layout/configuration.

On ours, the 300yd target (usually shot first, in the morning) has a shadow across the face... which makes the lines *very* difficult to see, even with a good high-powered scope.

That said, I do generally hold off on the lines, as that's what works for me on the longer distance targets. One could go so far as to off-set their zero to the edge of the black, and hold there for a better reference point that's not going to get chewed up by bullet holes.

difficult for me to see and hold on the X so I am going to try a 6 o'clock hold on the bottom edge of the black. Has anyone else done this and it worked out for them ?

Don’t worry about reading the numbers or seeing the x. Look at the lines (rings). I can’t see any advantage to a six o clock hold. With a center hold you at least have the rings to help gage your wind calls.

If there is little or no wind, dial the scope so crosshair is on the number 9 while the shots are landing ON THE X. This is done by HOLDING on the 9 and dialing over to the X. Very simple. This way you WILL have a defined target to hold on. Even if the wind picks up to say 2-3m.p.h. a click or two will still maintain the #9 hold and the shots still landing in the X! Do this "dialing" while you are in your sighter time.
I want to add that this should be done ONLY at 300 yards and with little or almost NO wind.

I like doing this at 600 but at the 6 or 7 during sighters. It freaks people out. Haha. You get it where you want it say on the 6 after about 7-10 sighters then turn back and say let’s go for record. Firing stops around you and your score keeper hesitantly says “ going for record”
Boom....,......... X, one on hahaha

I believe your system is a slight variation of mine. I actually stay on the #9 with the crosshair and dial over to the X.. Since in relatively short order there is no more X, the #9 serves as a "permanent" point of aim..
