If there is little or no wind, dial the scope so crosshair is on the number 9 while the shots are landing ON THE X. This is done by HOLDING on the 9 and dialing over to the X. Very simple. This way you WILL have a defined target to hold on. Even if the wind picks up to say 2-3m.p.h. a click or two will still maintain the #9 hold and the shots still landing in the X! Do this "dialing" while you are in your sighter time.
I want to add that this should be done ONLY at 300 yards and with little or almost NO wind.
I believe your system is a slight variation of mine. I actually stay on the #9 with the crosshair and dial over to the X.. Since in relatively short order there is no more X, the #9 serves as a "permanent" point of aim..I like doing this at 600 but at the 6 or 7 during sighters. It freaks people out. Haha. You get it where you want it say on the 6 after about 7-10 sighters then turn back and say let’s go for record. Firing stops around you and your score keeper hesitantly says “ going for record”
Boom....,......... X, one on hahaha

I have not shot a 300 yard match since I left Texas 3 years ago. But when I did, I shot the NightForce BR 12-42 and generally left it on 42..Thank you, I am definitely going to give this a try.
What power scope are you guys using ?
