Thanks Shawnba— That’s the way it usually works for me. I’ll see wat I can find.Ebay has lots of micro 100 bars. Usually every size except what you need.
but Ive bought a couple cheap
Thanks tob- those seem like a great deal. I’ll try one.
Thanks Carlsbad— I’ll try one of those.for preboring I generally use a standard solid carbide 5/16" diameter indexible boring bar. I have solid carbide boring bars in 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1". Usually it is good to use the biggest boring bar you can comfortably fit in the hole.
It does- I got some drills. Thanks again.hope it helps
I also use these to cut crowns
I am sure that has happened in the past. Sounds like an interesting exercise, but it’s way down the list. Thanks. A skill like that would definitely be worth learning and I appreciate you bringing it up. I bet I could grind one serviceable right now. Might take a couple tries but I think I could do it. You got me thinkin— thanks againI HEARD A CRAZY RUMOR THAT WAY BACK IN THE DAY, PEOPLE WOULD GRIND THEM IN HSS, SOMETIMES FROM A ACTUAL TOOLBIT, SOMETIMES FROM AN END MILL.
Yes that’s how they did it. I like to work on or fix everything I have but I just don’t have the time, even now that I don’t have a real job. Thanks.Back when people had more time than money. That's the day my dad was raised in. "Son, we can make one of those." So that was the mentality that I was raised with. "never buy something when you can make it." Now I have more money and less time and I tend to buy a lot more things that I could make. But I still enjoy making my own whenever I can.
That’s excellent advice as usual hog— ThanksMy 2¢, Go with an index version. Easier than a regrind on a solid carbide.
Ain’t it the truth— memories"Son, we can make one of those." So that was the mentality that I was raised with. "never buy something when you can make it." Now I have more money and less time and I tend to buy a lot more things that I could make. But I still enjoy making my own whenever I can."
Thanks for putting a huge smile on my face! Took me back to the mid 50's hanging out in the shop with my dad and or grand dad. They "schooled" me in the same philosophy and it still comes in handy on occasion.
thanks carlsbadIndexible solid carbide.
