Harvey makes great stuff!
i actually thought about buying one and trying it out walt- mabie i will- How much can you take in one pass with a rougher ? ThanksA roughing reamer is faster and easier.
Thanks for that info Ridgeway. expanding my horizonsOn a side note, I purchased a Grizzly solid carbide shank boring bar several years ago and it will fit in a .236 hole. I picked it up to bore 6mm muzzle breaks. I quit using brakes, but I use the small bar all the time. Handy to have.
i have heard that- ill look into it. thanksI've been up at the Grizz showroom a few times in Bellingham Washington. Neat place to visit for a tool nut!
ok 59- I see your screen name has changed. Anyway thanksThis.
It only takes me 15 minutes to chamber a 300 Win Mag complete using a roughing reamer to 0.100 of final depth and then finish to depth. I do use through barrel coolant. I feed the reamer what it wants. Usually starting 0.2 before withdrawal. 0.1 for the last few passes.i actually thought about buying one and trying it out walt- mabie i will- How much can you take in one pass with a rougher ? Thanks
Thanks for that info Walt- ill have to set one of those through the bore systems up-It only takes me 15 minutes to chamber a 300 Win Mag complete using a roughing reamer to 0.100 of final depth and then finish to depth. i knew that- thanks for ur helpThat's the name I use on a few other forums after I joined this one, just trying to streamline, no flim-flam intended.
Thats pre-drilling. If it concerns you it follows the bore just like a reamerI’ve been using piloted core drills to pre-bore.

Ive heard of that but couldnt find them on ptg site so thanks for that info and link.I’ve been using piloted core drills to pre-bore.

And if the bore had been dialed in that should be pretty concentric shouldnt it ?Thats pre-drilling. If it concerns you it follows the bore just like a reamer
Theres always discussion of pre boring to make sure when its said and done the chamber is concentric with the throat. If you go with the banana shaped bore theory it will not. If you’re a reamer follows the bore no matter where it starts then its the same as running the reamer in there except less wearAnd if the bore had been dialed in that should be pretty concentric shouldnt it ?
Ok that all makes sense ThanksTheres always discussion of pre boring to make sure when its said and done the chamber is concentric with the throat.
