Where are the primers going? Seriously

I have a partial box of the WOLF 223 primers that actually outshot (by a hair) the SRMs. I was wondering what the difference might be.

The original Russian SRM was said to be no different from the standard (copper colour) SR model in its ignition performance, ie very 'mild', but it had a thicker / stronger cup to cope with 5.56 NATO pressures. Its factory designation was KVB-5,56. I'm still using up the remains of my stock of this model. It's one of the 'toughest' primers you could get, that is in resisting cratering / blanking, but I've found the recent new-model KVB-223, which is probably what your Wolf 223s are, to produce better groups than the old SRM with some powders.

Yeah. I've had a few variants of the SRM Silver cups, brass cups (which is what I'm running now). I think the SRM has always had a green priming compound.

I think you're right on my 223s. They have a copper colored compound and are probably a later production generation of primer.

Primers basically went none existent after Obama took office. That was my wake call. I stocked up in the years following when they became available again. Now I get to watch the non-preppers grovel for components…. Lol!
Similar story here, I took a few years off from reloading, life got in the way. Last summer I decided to get back into reloading For .308 and 9mm. To my surprise I was smack dab in the middle of a ammo shortage. I only had 1 of the 4 components needed for reloading, the cartridges. So that was my wake-up call, the realization that I was not prepared. So I went into 8 LGS almost every day for months searching for components and powder. I now have 10 pounds of powder for both. 8000 primers for both. 2000 cartridges for both. And 2000 projectiles for both. I will never take my 2nd amendment rights for granted again. I will keep buying as I see components for me and my son-in -law, because they will never be cheaper than today.

It seems that factory's are full tilt on SRP's. More and more
5.56 is coming out to make the mag dumpers happy. Still
waiting on LRP's, and when you find them, they demand
a kidney and left nad !! This might have been brought up
already but, I wonder what primer size the new military ammo
is going to use ?? With this switch over, we could really be
screwed if LRP's are the ones.

primer availability for today:
