When moving…

My last two moves...from 4600 square feet to 3200...from 3200 to 1600. I regret giving away my equalizer, amp, casstte/radio/cd player and aged Cerwin Vega speakers the most. I am still sitting on two rooms full of family heirlooms from as far back as 1850. I really don't miss or need anything I sold (little) or gave away...a lot. I probably could spend an entire summer (or winter) just sorting and pitching more. But the note made above by Josh would certainly come to bite me. However, I don't see me ever using that depression glassware, those huge family potraits designed for 10 foot ceilings, the three crates of duplicate photos, or the toolbox full of rasps, rat tails and files. I now live in a 7 foot ceiling old ranch house built by a half blind DIYer in 1958. None of my former furniture fits or looks right.
Thinking about it, I would be better off just buying a walker and wheelchair...I will likely need them before any of this stuff!

I'm a child of depression era parents. I keep everything...it was bred and beat into me and it is just who I am now.
That's the problem I'm facing now, going through and weeding out what you really need to keep.
14 years in this house, its the longest I've ever lived in 1 place and the accumulation of stuff I haven't seen in years is evident.

Greetings,
Wife and I are in process of moving to Idaho. Finding the strangest things that have gone “boing” over the years…. An AR buffer detent…

Howdy !

I DK whether you will be putting any stuff into storage, while emptying out your current house ?

During you move, ensure you have all your firearms with you and always under your immediate control….plus all of your reloading stuff; too .

Plan on personally driving it in your vehicle chosen to accommodate these important
Personal belongings.

We put stuff into storage, while prepping to move 3 states over.
While I had made it a specific point to keep all my firearms right there with me along with most of my reloading sundries all the way through…
those items I boxed/labeled for shipping via a “ POD “, like my 45+ y.o. Rockchucker, all of my reloading notebooks, a retirement gifted Frankfort Arsenal auto powder dispenser et al……. Were stolen.

Our storage unit was robbed….. twice…and we lost about 1/3 of all our total belongings.

My guns, bullets, powder, primers, brass, and most reloading dies/tools I still have today…. because I had made a point to keep them with me; and transport them myself during some 12 1/2 hr of drive time.

*** Actually, I have them ONLY because of God’s good and gracious will ! ***

“ He that hath ears to hear…. “

My tip is...
If you haven't seen it, used it, or needed it in 6 months, get rid of it weather you sell it or shit can it.
I Use the SAME Rule but, I move, the "Time Limit" Out to,.. AFTER, 5 Years,.. except, a couple of Guns as I always Have "Plans" to,.. Use, them ( LOL ! ).
I Gave Away, a Marlin 39A .22 LR and an Anschutz 64 .22 Mag to 2 of My grandsons,,.. 6 Months Later,..
I was Building, a Semi-Custom 10-22 Ruger with a Green Mtn Barrel and Volquartzen, Bolt & Trigger Parts !
Found Out that,.. I couldn't Live without, a GOOD, .22LR, in the Vault

It’s not wasteful if you “Pay It Forward” by donating items to those in need/less fortunate that can put them to good use.
I would give most anything I have to anyone that needs it but, sadly, much of what I have would be classified as trash by many. I still have a couple cans of old square nails my father had when he died. I pick through stuff that, even to me is trash and take it to the dump. Then, while I'm there, I find more stuff that "could come in handy" and come home with more than I left with.

Just be darn sure you want to be where you are headed. Experience speaking . After 40 years in Montana packed up and moved to WNC. Nice place some really good people and some sure nuff whackos.
Bought the old neighbors house and we are headed back Thursday to our old neighborhood.
Good Luck with your move. Idaho is pretty nice!!!!

We had to move just about everything from the main level of the house we've been in for 37 years to the lower level a couple weeks ago to re-carpet the main level. We cannot believe just how much sh_t we have and where it all came from, much less how the hell we found some place to put it all. We are trying our level best to de-clutter, but as others have said, "I might need that someday", is said way too often.
