When do you know that it's time to FL size your Brass?

I FL size after every firing, these days, because I use the same ammo for several rifles...and because I choose to with others...But you don't have to. You can neck size only for 2 or 3 firings then body size & neck size ..or FL size and start over with just neck bushing sizing die..for bolt gun, same chamber.
You can tell when ya need to FL size or body size....when the bolt has resistance on closing, first a light resistance then more resistance, don't want it to get anywhere near somewhat difficult to close the bolt...past time to FL size again. Used that method for years...and I found it accurate, back then.

I'm sorry I've been so active lately with the questions. I tried to look this one up, but all I found was people talking about the neck size. I have read on here that it is time to FL size your Brass when it is a struggle to go in the chamber of the rifle. After firing my .308 Lapua 5 times it still goes into the chamber like hot butter. It extracts a bit hard, but I may be imagining things.

Thanks again to the greatest community on the Web.
Mr. Wick,
With all the information in this post! One would hope you have gotten some fine information ?

I would offer two things. get your hands on a #8 Speer Reloading Manual. ( read it twice)
Second read more on this site on reloading.
If you lived close to me,a day or two in my Man cave.

Good Luck,
Don

Past the basics, are very few absolutes in reloading. A lot of people make up their minds that something works or doesn’t based on incomplete data sets. Others don’t test at all and simply go off of internet hear say. It’s easy to get hung up on something that worked once, but just because something “works” in one barrel doesn’t mean that it will work in the next one. I’ve learned a lot on this site and the guys that listen to the most will always tell you to test things for yourself.

I've read two reloading books. The most recent being Lee's. I know exactly what people are talking about. I have just never applied it myself. Hence, my questions about others experiences and added wisdom. I believe I have only been reloading for a tad over 2 month's.
You'll do fine, just take your time, understand not only what you're doing but why. Everyone has to start somewhere. I started in 69s to70 time frame in a rural area with no mentor and of course no internet, just a Lyman Reloading Manual.

Just master the basics for now, the advanced procedures can come later if you need to go there. Don't get caught up in all the techno jargon. Stick to book data for your loads, not Bubba's internet super-duper load. Above all, stay safe and don't stray into the weeds.

Best wishes on your reloading journey.

I’m not new to reloading, but I’m new to precision reloading. Previously, I just aimed for the middle of SAAMI specs and safe loads. Now that I’m working on longer range shooting, my learning curve is almost a vertical trajectory as I read about, try, and test different methods. You need to test things for yourself, but make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Reading what everyone has posted this seems like a very logical choice.

The Redding Competition Bushing Neck Sizer Die Set includes a Competition Bushing Neck Sizing Die, Body Die and Competition Seating Die. Both the Bushing Neck Sizing Die and the Competition Seating Die feature micrometer adjustments for precision. Bushings and Shellholder sold separately.Competition Bushing Sizing Die -- With this die, the cartridge case is completely supported and aligned with the sizing bushing before the sizing process begins. As the sizing process starts, the cartridge case remains supported in the tightly chambered sliding sleeve as it moves upward while the resizing bushing self centers on the case neck. The decapping rod is maintained in precise alignment by using the internal parts of the die as a linear support much like a firing pin. While the micrometer adjustment of the bushing position delivers precise control to the desired amount of the neck length to be sized. (Bushings are sold separately)The Body Die -- is designed to full length resize the case body only and bump the shoulder position for proper chambering without disturbing the case neck. It is intended for use only to resize cases which have become increasingly difficult to chamber after repeated firing and neck sizing.Competition Seating Die -- The bullet guide to seating stem fit is so precise that the seating stem can actually be demonstrated to float on a column of air. The micrometer is calibrated in .001"; increments. It also has a zero set feature that allows you to zero the micrometer to your rifle or favorite seating depth.
