What's your favorite powder for 9mm ???

My fav is/was Unique. Not the cleanest but gave me the power factor I like (137000) and there was a lack of felt recoil. My late wife never had a problem with my load.

Power Pistol is great. But the best 9mm load comes from an early 70s Sierra 1st edition reloading manual.

I had used 9mm in precision pistol so I did a lot of accuracy testing at 50 yards from a fixture. Power Pistol was the clear winner with WSF a pretty distant second. I think that is also what David Sams had used which was good enough for me to try it.

WSF with 147's because WSF is good in 45 acp also. But it's been years since I reloaded 9mm.

W231 works fine with 115s which all I load, but it's been a while since the closet is full & price of loaded beats the hump of loading 9mm.

W244 is virtually the same as W231, just a touch slower so you need a 10th or 2 more powder for equal velocities, but I've only compared 231 & 244 in the 45s.

CFE pistol

Titegroup

All 147 grain subsonic.

115gr at 2Sixty dolla per thou is so cheap that I would lose money reloading it when you factor in my time

Nothing wrong resurrecting an old thread but when times were tough few yrs ago ie powder shortage I could find ramshot silhouette all day long. Works great in 115,124,135 loads. I do have power pistol to try out one of these days.

How much for a case of gold dots in any weight???

Or what if I am loading for something with a compensator and want to choose a powder that produces the most gasses possible to actually ‘work’ the comp?

Rolling my own is always cheaper when loading anything good.

I bill out my time at $250 / hr.

I can't hand load a thousand rounds in an hour. Prolly more like 3-4 hours. Thats $ 750 - 1000 forfeited.

$150 min for boolits. Throw in $85 for a thousand primers and probably $100 for powder And even if I get range pickup free cases I'm way upside down. Thats some $1,100 per 1k rounds. Multiply that by 3 - 4 ( thousand rounds fired per year 9mm ) $4,400 for 4k handloads

Versus $1,200 for 4,000 factory rounds.

Easier and cheaper to buy factory 115 / 124 gr. And I really dont enjoy loading 9mm, like I do rifle rounds..

But do what you want.

Factory rounds will never group like a handload. No comparison

Were talking handguns here. 115 gr training ammo.. I *always* handload my rifle rounds.

At 15+ yards, its ** me** thats grouping poorly, not the ammo. I dont compete Bianchi cup anyway.

At 7 yards my factory rounds group 1 ragged hole. Good enuf for me.

$4,400 vs. $1,200 for 4k rounds ... Im good with a 15 yd 2" group vs. a 1.5" group. Esp. in training ammo..
