What’s your favorite hunting rifle weigh?

I’ve gotta hear more about that elk! One like that is on my bucket list!!

Thanks, that is an Arizona bull taken on day 4 of a solo backpack hunt. Wasn't initially meant to be solo, but my brother had a severe shoulder injury the week before and was out of action. Saw the bull twice during scouting and was beginning wish I hadn't passed on some smaller ones when he reappeared. Two days of pack out had me beat down.

Here is a picture from a month before and my hunting camp.Bull.jpg0924151726.jpg

That is an awesome sounding hunt! One most memorable I’m sure. Sounds like my kinda hunt. Thanks for sharing a tidbit of your story! I’m headed to Alaska next week for a backpack hunt.

My favorite hunting rifle is right around 7 lbs.
A shortened, lightened Thompson/Centre Encore in 7mm Rem Mag. Leupold 1-4 on top.
I bought it when I was 18, and it's killed a LOT of game!View attachment 1686416
This is my oldest with an elk he took with it last fall.

For just shooting, I love heavy guns. For my style of hunting, it almost can't be too light.
Thompson makes a fine rifle, as you know, it's the cheapest in my menagerie, but can't be outshot in 204 Thompson Center Venture,a rifle costing 10 times more won't even shame it a wee bit. Nice shooting there.

My favorite is Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed. Weighs 7 lbs 4 oz with ammo and Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40. Have carried it quite a bit in WY and wouldn’t want it heavier.
Some of my prairie dog rifles are over 14 lbs, which is fine for carrying 3 ft from truck to bench. :p
