What’s wrong with this picture? Commander?

Maybe he needs suction cups on his deck shoes like a squid?!?

The objective lens cover, just under the brim of his hat can be seen, but that ocular cover is snapped down tight!

Scope is mounted reversed/backwards. The force of that 223 is so strong (or he's just WAF) that he needs a helping hand on his shoulder so he doesn't fall over backwards. I can go on........

Many years ago, I experienced the hand on the shoulder while offered a full auto with some Marines at the range. Could be a safety thing…. I never asked them about it. In the photo there are two empties in the air, and the selector switch appears to be in auto.

Looks to be photo shopped or cropped ( however it’s done)

It was on the Navy's official Twitter/X account, until it was taken down. Follow on post acknowledged the "rifle scope error."

There were actually at least three pictures taken. Two of the three, the eyepiece scope cap (facing forward, incorrectly) was opened, so someone caught his mistake.

I am surprised that any on that ship spend any time with small arms training. I am glad to see him doing something for readiness. If I were to think about how this administration would have that guy spend his day, it would be with DEI and trying to find time for half the crew to be in port so they can see the doctor to make progress with their transition while they have tax dollars to do it. If he can find time for himself and the crew to train with small arms more power to him, anything is better than what Biden has planned for him to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if this commanding sailor hasn't had any formal small arms training since his basic, which may have been 20 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he has little to no knowledge about optical sights. The reticle in that scope, looking from the objective lens, at lower power looks pretty normal.

If anything the armorer, marine, sailor who mounted the scope should be retrained, disciplined, maybe visit the brig.

That is what they are doing and the reason for the photo shopped pic. They really aren't doing any small arms training.
