What’s wrong with this picture? Commander?

This is one reason the military is trying very hard to bring back the people who actually knew what our military was there for. Any military that will give you a "time out" because your D.I. yelled at you simply isn't a military that can win a war.

But then again any president that would give a billion dollars worth of our equipment to the very ones that hate us most really doesn't love our country anyway.

I am not up on photo shopping at all, but it looks to me like the brass is way bigger than 223 brass. I know perspective would make it look bigger as it is ejecting towards the camera, but I don't think it would look that big.

i wouldnt trust todays military with a nerf gun, over here in the uk, i watched a group of soldiers training on a range, and was told someone forgot the ammo, so they were training with bows and arrows i kid ye not bluesako

I think i figured out why the scope is on backwards. Thats so he can simulate long distance shooting, the target came be close and he can look through the scope and it will seem far away. Many competitions use a reduced target, but they just put the scope on backwards. Lets go Brandon

If you look through the objective end of a 1-8X scope on low power and were not familiar with optics it wouldn't seem that unusual. It appears this scope is set on about 1.5-2 power. I don't have a Vcog to know if the scope caps are rotatable, but it appears the ocular cap is in the cover position which would be immediately recognized, unless the cap has been rotated so it flips out to the right side and then it would be difficult to see in the photo if it is flipped out or not (it would then be seen on the left mounted backwards). The fired brass does appear that it may have been photo shopped, if the photo was taken before he actually fired, and they wanted it to look like it was taken during a full auto firing string.

I wouldn't expect the commander of a guided missile destroyer to be overly familiar with small arms. It is fun to poke humor at another fellow sailor, marine, grunt, or airdale, and, it certainly is embarrassing for the commander. Now I can move on.

All about perspective, depth of field, distance from subject, and especially the complexity of lenses/skill set of photographer.

Oh you totally misunderstand me, there is nothing funny about this. The WHOLE country is being taxed for national defense, and it is being wasted on DEI, I have zero problem with a minority doing a job, this is their country also and if they can do the job better than anybody so be it. Servicemen and women are joining so that the military can pay for their transition. NOT WHAT I PAID MY TAXES FOR. This was their attempt to make us think that the current military is tough and ready, and they blew that.

Sure seem to be hard on today's military: although i believe there are a few that are clueless, someone is laying in their rack pissing themselves laughing how they made their superior look like a knucklehead. And if it's an AI generated pic, hopefully computer guy is the one laughing in the rack

I served USN in on a Destroyer Escort the 70's and in those days, Marines were not on the smaller vessels including Cruisers or Destroyers/Frigates.

Small arms were the direct responsibility of the Gunners Mates. If there were no Marines onboard, then this screw up belongs to them.

Would hate to be the Chief Petty officer in charge of them on the McCain after this pix hit the media.

No more seagoing bellhops.

The Corps' Salty Seadogs Have All But Come Ashore: Seagoing Traditions Founder as New Millennium Approaches
By Herb Richardson and R.R. Keene
Detachments of Marines have served aboard American naval vessels since the beginning of the Continental Marine Corps in 1775. That stretch of more than two centuries ended last May when officials at Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C., opted to scuttle the detachments to free more Marines for Fleet Marine Force duty.

There is the possibility that someone was “screwing” with him and purposely mounted his scope backward.
If that's the case, it just blew up in their faces. You can be sure the USN isn't going to sit back and be embarrassed globally and just laugh about it. I'm betting by now, the Chief of Naval Operations knows about this.

I expect disciplinary action against those involved. It may even involve all the way to the Captain of the ship.

I would expect quick disciplinary action too, but this is the "new" military. Today, you have to ask the offenders to please stop their pranks. You don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Self important leftists can't stand a good joke, so Im betting someone is being "relieved of command due to lack of ability to lead" or whatever PC line they toss out there.

Most likely. OR he was screwing around and someone decided to take a pic. It's a QD mount and can be turned around in a few seconds...
