What's up w/ DTAC?

Sooo... some time back I read on this site about the 111 DTAC replacing the 115 DTAC. Then this year I read a thread that basically said the reason that no one could get the 111 DTAC is that they were being dumped and Tubb was going back to the 115. For a time you couldn't get the 111 or the 115, they were scarce to say the least; I have looked lately to see if supply has gotten better. Then I read that Tubb took 2nd at Camp Perry this year, USING 111 DTACs. So it seems there's all kind of rumors, but does anyone actually know the scoop? I don't want to get bullets, work up a load and then have the bullet discontinued, been there and done that w/ some of the barnes hunting bullets).

I had been waiting since about Feb. 08 for a supply of 111 Dtac. First it was told to me that Sierra had problems with the machine that inserted the polymer tip. Then it was supposed to be outsourced by Sierra. Then the company that Sierra outsourced the tip installation to couldn't seem to get it right. Then the "tipping" went back to Sierra where upon they delivered bullets for testing. After testing at distance there were some unexplained "flyers". It was later discovered that some of the tips were being disturbed or coming loose. David didn't like the performance of the 111's so the project was scrapped. 115 DTAC's I was told are here to stay. Supply was good enough so that I was able to order & receive 6500 BN 115 DTAC's. This is as was told to me to the best of my memory.

wc872-Are the new 115's the same as the old 115's,can you tell any difference??How about price??

I don't believe the 115 has changed at all. I have some of the first batch, moly'd) still on my component shelf, as well as some,BN-coated) I received late last season. Both shoot the same in my rifles.

Right now SSS has the BN-coated product in stock for $120 per 500-count box. The plain bullets are somewhat less.

Both the 117 & 111 polymer-tipped development work has been discontinued.
