IMHO, quit the opposite sir. I have 100% peace of mind with the Savage PTA and what all can be done with it. It keeps me from spending more than I need to on custom actions and achieving the same accuracy. It fits my budget a lot better too. Just my .02 cents.I don’t know where you’re at in this process, if you’re too far down the savage road to turn back, or maybe you’re content with them?
If you’re not committed to savages, now’s a great time to pivot to something else, and keep the prefits. Several better receivers take prefits. Just a thought.
If we're going to start down THAT road, colors are NOT the way to distinguish Loc-Tite products. But that's a topic for a new thread if someone wants to start it.hate to stick up for UR but there are other colors. lol
Which color turns blue if you put copper solvent on it?If we're going to start down THAT road, colors are NOT the way to distinguish Loc-Tite products. But that's a topic for a new thread if someone wants to start it.
Better check the product code numbers.
I have used gauges, but also build a lot of weird stuff where gauges are hard to come by. I've learned to use a case in place of a gauge. YMMV.I'm leaning towards using a nut. Sounds more straight forward to me using a Go/No Go gauge.
If you’re happy with them, go for it, I was just offering an alternative. If you’re happy with a single shot and that trigger. I’ve done my savage thing for quite a while. They shoot. Certainly not trying to offend.IMHO, quit the opposite sir. I have 100% peace of mind with the Savage PTA and what all can be done with it. ''Loctitted'' ah I think my smith uses a special grease. I am usually wrong. ;]Sure. That too. Have you removed one red loctited on?

I agree I have 2 Nucleus and a Origin, love them. Not sure how many Savage's and I'm fond of them also.1 more day of traveling before I'm home from a pdog trip. Urbanrifleman's barrels slayed those critters using a barrel nut. Wow, it’s been 2 years since I did that “test”. The OP should go back and read it.Here is the thread. All 25 pages.
I think for most applications a good quality barrel nut on a well machined barrel ought to be okay. However, as I think through this, I see some potential disadvantages.
With a well machined shouldered barrel, when you tighten it up it firmly and evenly engages the action. At most, you might get .001" more from just snug to heavy torque. More often I think it's less than .0005". This means the barrel is true to the action with no stress. This allows very heavy barrels to free float.
With a barrel nut, there is no barrel shoulder so thread tension must be what holds everything in...

I would make further comment, but I'll just leave the thread to the reader.
One of the reasons I bought an arc action was because I could use my existing savage barrelsI agree I have 2 Nucleus and a Origin, love them. While it might have been a case of of “I I did it because I can”, the info garnered did answer some important questions, not only for others but for myself.
In today’s world of “speculation”, sometimes you just have to break down and do it, so to speak.

Same applies for working over a Remington these days. Silly. Too many good customs starting at $750 to mess with factory receivers. Mack BrosI agree I have 2 Nucleus and an Origin, love them.
