What’s a good optic on an AR when hunting coyotes?

FOV, the more you can see the faster your target acquisition is.

Here's a little list of FOV's

6x- 18' FOV at 100 yards, at 20 yards 3.6' barely a whole coyote, when your butt hit's your shoulder you have to have the coyote almost perfectly centered to see him.

4x-28' at 100 yards, at 20 yards 5.6' , again only a coyote and a half.

1.5x-81' at 100 yards, at 20 yards 16' at least four coyotes, that is a lot of area to pick up a coyote in.

1x-100' at 100 yards at 20 yards you have 20' that much more of the country to pick one up out of.

This is one of the reasons you see low power scopes on DGR's, fast target acquisition, plus you don't have to take the time to align the front bead and rear sight.

Shooting with both eyes open will speed things up also as the left eye will give you the FOV and the right the aiming point, having a fitted rifle is a big bonus here because your right eye is perfectly aligned with the scope.
