Whats a 30 Rem necked down to 6mm?

It sounds like a 6 DTI by Dtech. It is based on the 6.8 Remington, which was based on the 30 Remington case. The case he uses has a 30 degree shoulder. If the case is marked 30 Remington, I can't imagine anyone using that expensive brass to make the 6 DTI.

It's a not very common wildcat. There was a guy (Irwin Schinkle (sp?) campaigning one in Hunter class (I think) in PA mid/late 80s. He lived next to a guy that I worked with & we went to Guthsville to watch one day. The 1st real BR match I ever saw.

I think that 357 Mag fellow on here has something similar.

Official name? There are likely 20 very minor variations & same/same developed in different places by different people.

6XC? the fact that the maker used a 30 Rem case has little to do with what it was reformed to. OAL of the 30 Rem will establish max length, but it could be shaped into almost anything now.

Years ago I fooled with a cartridge that Harold Broughton cooked up called a 240 Coyote #2. Cases could be made from 30-30, 30 Rem., or 219 Zipper. It had almost no body taper and a 35 degree shoulder. I made cases from both 30-30 and 30 Rem. brass. It was suppose to be the answer to Sako stopping production or 220 Russ in the mid '80's. It had sporadic moments of greatness followed by prolonged periods of mediocre performance. Was similar to a 6mm Donaldson. When Lapua brass came out , it died a quick death. Still fool with it once in a while, but not in a match. The quality of the brass was it's problem. 55000+ psi was too much for it.

Anyone know how 6 hagar brass came about?
Just a google away:

I've had a couple of 6 Hagar uppers in the past, but sold them & went with the regular 6.8 SPC case necked down to 6mm. I do have a 22 DTI, & like the 6 version, it's just a 6.8 necked down, with the shoulder changed from 23 to 30 degrees.

The Hagar has essentially the same case length as a 223, with a larger body, vs the 6.8 SPC slightly shorter at 1.687".

I had a highwall that was a 6mm/30-30 AI. 30 Remington not much more than a rimless 30-30.

The 6.8 SPC was finally made to do what it was made for by wildcatters after Remington screwed it up. I still have one and take it out once in a while.
