I witness many 10 shot targets out of that Tune last year setting many records and a single target 10 shot record the “tune” was beyond legitimate LolHas anyone ever posted a follow up picture of say - 10 shots of the best verticle?
Sparker I would agree, what I find often is a jump or really large jump will assist a tune in being a better “grinder” more forgiving over longer strings of fire but often the resolution is not small enough to compete front page at a given long Range Bench rest match. Strings of fire are far less so chasing a “hero to zero” tune is often the case.. it’s a fun pursuit for sure..In other disciplines, bullets are shot to great effect with seating depths ranging from .010” off to as much as .050” off, perhaps longer and many distances in between. Now, this is for 15 or 20 round strings. Clearly not the same as LR-BR but the accuracy requirements are nevertheless very high.
Agreed, Just depends if a guy is doing course ladders or finer ones but the finer we get the more important more shots are per color . Ladders will divulge the deficiencies within a given ladderI've learned so much from Alex's posts. And with 3 shot groups I get the same results at 1016 yds. I've learned don't shoot that 4th shot or everything you thought you knew may go out the window. You won't know without shooting that 4th shot. Example three groups: 3" triangular group, 6" horizontal group with 1.5" vertical, 7" vertical group with 1.5" horizontal. On my way to tuning right? But 4th shot added to each group and they all become 7" square groups. Where to go now? Next day the 3" triangular group becomes one of the other two. They are all 7" loads with me shooting but with only 3 shot groups you don't know for sure. Of course you find that out when shooting 5 shot groups to validate the 3 shot good one, but for some of us it may save ammo just to shoot groups of 4 - but if first 2 are bad stop on that group. ????
I agree, once you are fine tuning, 4 or 5 is a great way to allow the cream to rise.Agreed, Just depends if a guy is doing course ladders or finer ones but the finer we get the more important more shots are per color . Ladders will divulge the deficiencies within a given ladder

Jim, just whisper nice things to that barrel, she will squeeze out a few more good targets for ya!!Towards the end of a decent shooting barrel I would like to have a few of those rounds back.
Careful Jim,Towards the end of a decent shooting barrel I would like to have a few of those rounds back.
I hated putting all those rounds down range testing lately, so hopefully a few nice words will do the trick snd we’ll shoot a couple small ones in August.Jim, just whisper nice things to that barrel, she will squeeze out a few more good targets for ya!!

Well IMHO it’s better to have put the work in and flounder vs not putting the work in and floundering. They definitely “chew” different for me over the long hall.. looking forward to shooting in a couple weeksI hated putting all those rounds down range testing lately, so hopefully a few nice words will do the trick snd we’ll shoot a couple small ones in August.
Lol yep he sure did, actually it was 19 as he had a moment of weakness that like took 1/2”-1” from his agg Remember Tom
3 has always worked for me. But I am not just shooting one group. In the original post Tom shot .007, .008, and .009. .006 shoots in that barrel too. So if this was .006, .007, and .008 you would have 3 groups in the ones, at least for vertical. From that I can easily pick .007 and be confident. I dont need to see 5 at .007 because I just saw those 9 shots do well. I always like to see both sides of what Im testing to see in come in and go out, thats what gives me confidence in 3 shots. If I was just shooting random groups bouncing all over then yes Id have to see more shots. And sometimes with things like neck tension you cant really bracket both sides because it doesnt work that way with neck tension so in that case you would want to see more shots. But the goal is to get tuned in as quickly as possible so you can get the barrel to a match before wasting it so a lot of guys will test things like that in the match. A barrel only has so many ten shot groups in it. Of course this cartridge is so well dialed in we kind of already know what to feed it with only minor tuning needed usually.I've learned so much from Alex's posts. Thank you for reminding me its picking the best spot on the curve not just the best group.3 has always worked for me. But I am not just shooting one group.
