what would be the best thread for my bull barrel

hi guys
just wondering my gunsmith ask me what type of thread you want on the end of the barrel.what type would youse recommend me to use and why and if they are a particular thread for my bull barrel. could someone guide me in the right direction. :)

If it is ,say 30 caliber I would use 5/8th's-24 as most commercial brakes are threaded like this however if your smith can get one with a 3/4 inch threaded break then it would be less machining in a way, lol.

why thread it unless he is fitting a brake to it at the time? its not like hes sending it out thinking you may put a brake on it someday. if hes putting a brake on it he should know what thread to use I would hope.

Bull barrel?
I've heard that term for years without knowing what it means. I've checked all the barrel makers websites and fail to see it listed. What size is it?
Best listen to Dusty.

I don't know what to thing. I would give my gunsmith the responsibility of picking the right attachment. When he has it in his hands, he can thread the barrel.

Just tell him to thread it 1/2x28 I guess. That way you can put all kinds of stuff on there. Door breachers, flash hiders- all the tacticool devices. I should start threading all mine- what you thing Butch?

If I had a Savage, I would have him thread it to fit the Savage action. lol
Isn't a 1 " barrel a "Heavy Varmint" ?

What caliber ?

;D

I thing you should have it threaded to match the accessory you are wanting to install on it. If you are only threading it for a muzzle brake and don't care about matching it up to a mass produced piece, I recommend going with the largest diameter possible so it has the least effect on the muzzle.

Thinging out loud here but why not 7/8"X14 , that way you could screw on a couple die lock rings from Whidden. . I personally think the Whidden lock rings are the most tastefully built out there . Unless there was something else the smith wanted on the end of the muzzle?

My vote is the Whidden lock rings though... It'd start a trend I'm sure.

If you plan to put a brake on the rifle then you would want to have it threaded for the largest thread possible and still have some shoulder for the brake to mate to. If your not adding a brake, don't get it threaded. I don't like turning an od of a barrel if I dont have to.
