what was your first firearm?

Western Field bolt action .410 bore shotgun. Purchased from an uncle of mine who had MS when I was 11 years old for the princely sum of $35. No telling how many rabbits and squirrels (along with a few pheasants and woodcock) that shotgun put on the table. I refinished the wood and had the barrel reblued and put it away for my first born grandson. Never got a grandson, so I gave it to another young boy a few years ago.

Probably 10 to 12 years of age my dad bought me a mossberg 500 20 gauge combo with a slug barrel for Christmas. That started a very long love of shooting and hunting which continues today! I have shot a lot of deer, quail, and doves with that gun it will never leave. Great memories hunting with my dad and it. My son shoots it from time to time now!

Dad had different ones that the kids all used. I took a lot of game with a JC Higgins bolt 16ga. It was also great with slugs for deer. The first one that I bought for myself was a Rem 742 in 30-06. Had to have my dad sign for it though.

1970 bought a Marlin 336 in 30/30. It came with a 4x Marlin branded scope, leather sling, and a box of shells. $105 out the door, still have it in the safe.
Funny thing is I bought it in a gun shop that was next door to the New Haven Winchester factory.

First one dad "gave" me to use was an H&R single shot .410. First one I used on my own was a bolt action Westernfield (marlin) 22rf followed by a 16ga Wingmaster which dad officially gave me (+30 years later) just last weekend. First one I actually bought was a S&W model 60 which I affectionately refer to as the Left Hand of God. First cf rifle I bought was a 700 sendaro in 25-06. Anybody notice the connection ? :)

Winchester model 37 20 gauge for Christmas, think I was 10(1963).Killed a lot of small game with that thing until years later when I bought my first 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster.

You sir are an outstanding American!

I had an elderly neighbor that I used to help out everytime i could. She grew up in South Dakota and her husband had been killed in a wreck after only being married for a few years, and she never remarried. My wife and I moved into the house next door right after we got married. She was a great neighbor, always happy to help with the kids (when they came along). She moved about 10 years ago. She had a garage sale before she moved, but before the garage sale she brought over a large, amazingly warm, hand knitted afghan and her husband's old Marlin Mark I shotgun because none of her kids or grand kids were hunters. Then she told me to go over to her garage and pick out 5 or 6 fishing rods. A few weeks later I booked a quail hunt for me and my gsp at a local preserve, used that shotgun, and then took several of the the cleaned birds over to her. I hate using that shotgun because it doesn't pattern worth a crap, but it's one of the few firearms that I'll keep until I die.

My first actual firearm was believe it or not a Hi Point chambered in .40 caliber. i only shot it a couple of times before trading it off for a six shot revolver in .38 special. The High point worked j fine, it was just too blocky and chunky for me. I have small hands so it was not fun.
It was a 20ga. break action Stevens single shot shotgun.

When I was 12yo, a "hand-me-down" Westernfield 12 ga. side-by-side, that had a dent in the barrel from when it fell out of the cab of the dragline my grandfather was operating for the Road Commission. I restored that gun a few years ago and still have it. The first gun I bought for myself was a Glenfield (Marlin) 22 bolt-action with a 4X scope - long gone.
