Until cmp makes the creedmoor legal, I think the .223 service rifle will be competitive enough for most ranges to not bother with the big AR.

OP, the lightweight barrels and bolt carriers help and are plenty accurate but how much do you want to spend to make it what you want? A new barrel and carrier will cost 5-600 bucks. The light savage is supposed to be ok according to the gun rags.

Clean it, grease it, get a large bag of rice and the right size PCP pipe and caps. Combine all ingredients inside the pipe and bury it in the back yard.

If you still like it, invest in a new barrel. You may just find out you have a new favorite paper puncher

I was gonna say the same. If you like the platform, get a better quality barrel and keep shooting. Make sure the rear barrel face is true and square so your zero won't drift with heat.

Have not seen one person successfully shoot an AR10 XTC and be successful. The 223 AR15 pretty much dominate that course of fire.
Now LONG RANGE Service rifle that is another thing all together.
But that is such a tiny tiny portion of shooters in general that it warrants probably no mention.

Same goes for the FNFAL, SKS, AK and all the bells and whistles.

I used to have 2 - one an early SR25 from KAC which I got rid of The other sat around for a few years then I threw some money at it (20" Bartlien Barrel, lot of JP internals, KAC QD MAMS and the KAC QD can ) shoots 175gr great out to about 700yards - groups around .5 , then used the scope for my 260 bolt gun - got a 10 power from some wheeling and dealing used that on the AR10, for hogs and vermin mainly on a tripod from a blind , so not carrying that heavy thing around fields. Well who would have thunk that the hogs wised up and went totally nocturnal on my ass - mmm always wanted a thermal to play with - now just waiting for a chance to get out to my property and use it
