What to do with CZ527 in 222

I'm back to thinking about my CZ527 that's chambered in 222. I planned on getting it rebarreled in 2016, but i just didn't shoot enough to warrant messing with my guns. In 2017, though, I'm gonna need to rebarrel it as the suppressor is just too heavy for the sporter contour and i hate the issues of it heating up so quickly when shooting.

So, i had a thought....has anyone tried forming a PPC/Beggs/Russian case with a 0.384 bolt face? Is there a parent case that would allow this?

or should i just suck it up and do a 20-223AI?

Do a 20 Tac. Everything (dies, etc) are off the shelf.

What you are considering might be a bridge too far when you say you don't shoot that much. Any parent case for the Beggs family would use a PPC bolt face. You could make cases with rebated rims and use the 222 BF, but that would require a lathe and some work. Although I like the Beggs cases, I don't know that it would be worth the work. I have both a 20223AI and a Vartarg. Either one might be a better choice. Both would use your current bolt and neither require much in the way of case forming. The Vartarg is currently more popular and finding a smith with a reamer wouldn't be that difficult. You'll love the cartridge.

I am a little confused as to your purpose of rebarreling. You say that you do not shoot enough to warrant messing with your guns , yet you are planning on getting it rebarreled. As far as the suppressor being too heavy I do not understand exactly what you are referring to - is it causing barrel sag or do you just not like the looks of it? And I am really confused when you refer to it heating up so quickly - are you referring to barrel heat or suppressor heat? If you are referring to barrel heat there are few cartridges that will create less barrel heat than the 222. IMO you should save your money and learn to love your 222 it is hard to improve on especially using the logic you have presented.

i don't shoot a lot, but i like to tinker.

The suppressor for this rifle is a Liberty Torch (non-qa) that weighs 21.7oz....it greatly affects POI and consistency...leading me to think the barrel is sagging to much.

Heating issues is the barrel itself. With the thin contour and me shooting longer strings...it heats up quickly. I resorted to single loading rounds, but even with that...the barrel gets too hot to touch.

I do like my 222...but, i like to tinker and the allure of a 20cal is getting to me.

Anything you hang on the end of a barrel can change the POI even muzzle brakes. It's the change in harmonics. If your going to rebarrel it how about a 6x45? A really fun cartridge!

its more than harmonics on this barrel, though. It's a very light sporter contour and the suppressor is fully stainless (baffles and tube) and it's just too much...but i don't have another .223 suppressor, right now. It does wonderful things on my 10.5" SBR, though.

I've seen a just muzzle brake move POI 7" wind x 4" elevation. Not that your supressor isn't a tank...

Sounds good.
The 6x47 is intriguing. If "best" performance is the goal with this boltface, maybe a 6x204?
The 6x204 definately has more capacity but on the CZ527 that extra 2mm in case may start to interfere with a useful OAL. On a slighly longer action, heck yea! I have a buddy that has one he needs to put in a stock and get it up and running. Muley where are you?? You paying attention??

If a 20 cal is the target, just put a 204 ruger barrel on it. Nothing else needs to be done and factory ammo exists.
