What to build?

.338 Lapua: Now thats a serious critter getter! Nothing like speed! Nice to see the Swifts and their variations still being used.

You might consider some of the 20cal offerings. 204, 20tac etc

this would be my suggestion having started out loading with 20 cal. 20 Tac is stupid easy to load for, not finicky at all and if you have a good smith, able to deliver astounding accuracy. Cheap to shoot in terms of powder and bullets and formed lapua is available. People will debate all day long, but you could take a coyote at 400 with one and it will shoot way flatter than 22-250. AND you'll have a 20 cal, which is a nice fuzzy feeling ;)

.22-204. Wildcat, but not that wild. Don't need custom dies and there's a good supply of quality .204 brass. Besides, there's a rumor that Ruger may be working on a .224 Ruger with similar specs.

My smith, Ray Bowman at Precision Rifle and Tool in N.C. has the PTG reamer with .250" neck and .060" freebore. Ray is working on the 5th project for me and he's my "go to" man for barrels.

The PTG reamer specs seem about right for 75 A-Max/VLD and similar. I'm working with
a Model 7 with 22 1/4", #2 Brux with 7.5 twist. It should perform about like a .223AI without the need for super high pressure or IMI brass, no fireforming needed, rounds work smooth from the box mag and it's long on "cool". Besides, it's a sleek, good looking round.

Do a 6BRX or Dasher with a 10" twist or faster. You would get tons of speed and good barrel life. Plus there are a ton of pills out there for it as well as the .22 stuff.

22-250 with a 12 twist if I was building. Have 2 now in 14 twist , both no problem shooting 55 b-Tips V max or Noslers.
