What straight wall cartridge?

I shot my Marlin 44 Magnum today and took the Garmin along. I set it on low speed and wasn’t picking up the shots. I set it on high speed and it worked. I was getting 1775-1800 FPS with a 230 grain plated bullet.
That’s sounds like a trick to remember. I haven’t any issues with mine on low speed but you never know. Those 44mags/45 colt levers are just fun, you seem to be enjoying yours!
Nakneker,

I found a Winchester 1886 (new one) that is going to Turnbull's to make into a 50-90 instead of that 71 I got from you. Want it back, just let me know.
If I can get some irons out of the fire I’ll take you up on that, it’s a sweetheart of a rifle. I didn’t realize I had as much loaded ammo for that rifle as I have. Found two more 50 ct boxes of loaded ammo the other day and 200 pieces of new brass.

I hear you there. When my brother died I inherited his guns. I have his Shiloh Sharps 50-90. And 500 rounds of loaded ammunition. The bad news; it is all Black Powder.

What about the new 3? Or 40 straight walls somebody makes? 30 Legend or 30 White tail or something like that?
I’ve been wishing for a 10mm lever gun. I’m getting 1300ish FPS out of my Glock, with a 180. Might go 1700 out of a rifle? Maybe 16 rounds in the tube of a little 18” carbine? That would be cool!
In response to your 10mm lever action comment. Ruger should be releasing one very soon.

38-55 in whatever platform you want. You could get a 336 and have JES rebore it to 38-55 (or 375 win.) or he has his own wildcat, a 405 JES which is, I believe, a 30-30 case almost straight, not the slight taper the 38-55 has. Might use .410" bullets.
You might find a Marlin cowboy in 38-55 also.

I have a beautiful Browning 38-55 inbound, I’ll share pics when it gets here. Ordered some brass from Starline and some bullets. I don’t know my way around lead bullets, ordered Barnes 255gr originals. I’ll start with those. My Dad shot a lot of cast bullets, I just never caught that bug but at some point when I have more time I’d like to explore that world a little.

I have an obsession with the 45/70. It's so versatile, I ve shot everything from a 156 grain round ball to a 605 grain pp along with just about every jacketed bullet offered. If you don't like recoil just load it down, it is a very accurate cartridge if loaded properly.

The Shilohs tend to shoot better with blac powder.

Me too, I have three of them, one of my favorite rounds. Versatile is the key word. I use AA5744 a lot with those three rifles.

I've got my trusty 1895 that I have owned since 1976, a Henry Yellow Boy that was gifted to me, and a BFR all in 45/70. I couldn't even begin to count how many critters my 1895 has accounted for. My BFR has collected a few white tail and 7 coyotes. I carry the BFR every day and properly loaded could take down ANYTHING that walks crawls, or flys

Those BFRs are big revolvers! Neat guns.

All BP loads in good, unless you plan on shooting it in an 1886 Winchester lever action rifle. Hour and a half pretty easy to do it right.

The Rossi 454 Casull is awesome rifle especially after you drop an action job on it. You can download and shoot 45 Colt it in making it alot more enjoyable to shoot...

That said, I can't believe no one on here as mentioned the 41 Mag. Henry makes the Big Boy Classic in 41 mag...absolutely love it...it's my straight wall round.

41 mag is fun one, I have two in handguns. Old single six and a Blackhawk hunter. My father shot the 41 mag a lot, the single six is his old gun. Some kind of a carbine would be a hoot!
