I run a light load of 28 grains of Varget, 107Smk lit by br4's in a 26" Bartlien 8 twist for comparison, it runs 2750.

Hi Dan !

New member here. Just saw your post about running your BR with 28g of Varget with a 107smk . Im running 28.1 because that’s the Sierra accuracy load and I needed to start somewhere . Accuracy is superb, but not what everybody else seems to run . They are around 30+ grains . Are u still running 28 and why ?

Thx much !

I have two.

1. Savage 10 26" McGowen 8 twist Varmint
105gr Berger VLD at the lands
Norma Brass
CCI #450 Primers
29.5gr H4895
2836fps

2. Remington Model Seven 22" Bartlien 3b 7.5 Twist
105gr Berger VLD .025" Jump
Norma Brass
CCI #450 Primers
30.0gr Varget
2775fps

The nodes have always been 2775 and 2875 and they follow that pattern going up into the Dasher node which is 2975 and 3075. My 243 shoots awesome at the 3075.

Which I find very, very interesting.

I am using a 28” Krieger 1:8, Berger 105’s VLD, Lapua brass, Fed. GM205M with VV N540 at 31 grains. I’m am seating about 0.001 into the lands. I just clocked it at 2993 average. Group's were good at 100-200 yards with no signs of over-pressure.

I chased the speed because I have never shot at 1000 yards and I shootings that distance in 4 days. I was under the false impression that more FPS would equal a more stable less wind drifting flight.

I had slightly better groups at 30.4 grains of VV n540, and was clocking an average of 2843.

My best groups were using the same materials but my powder was VV N-135 at 28.8 grains.

I’m on my second firing with this brass. I have not seen any evidence of overpressure so far. I’m new to this, will the first sign of slight overpressure be in the primer pocket?
In my experience with several thousand 6 BR & BRA firings you don't often get an overpressure "sign" but it will start to show up in the primer pockets that they've been pushed too hard.

I've got BRA cases that stayed in the low 2900 and below range with 20-30 firings on them and still have good pockets then I've got cases that have 5 or less rounds on them at 2970 - 3000 that are getting cases culled for loose pockets.

6 BR is less capacity and there's no way it's getting to close to 3000 fps without being over pressure.
People will disagree with me and that's fine as I'm not interested in debating it but I think 2900 is starting to push a 6 BR
i always got good pocket life and great accuracy running the BR 2750-mid to upper 2800s

If mid to high 2900s are fine in a BR I'm not sure why anybody is going to all the work of BRAs and Dashers?

Should see markings on the head stamp and/or flatten primers first.

While I agree with you I'll add "or not" for reasons in my response above. I've got a set of 300 pieces 6 BRA brass on its 5th firing, never seen 3000 fps but has got up into the 2990s on occasion testing and ran 2950-2970 the rest of the time.
I'd say 20% have loose pockets that get looser with every firing.
