What power

Im really not sure what pwer scope i need. Will a 24 power do for up to 1000 meters in f class or will i need a 32 power?

Yes, and it depends. Keep in mind that Palma shooters use iron sights for 800, 900, and 1000y. From a sling! And most of them will beat you with your F-Class rig on a bipod or rest and your riflescope.

So, don't get too worked up about magnification. 24x will be plenty. Would 32x be better? Depends on you. Right now, it's too early to tell. However, it's perhaps better to have too much magnfication at your disposal than too little. BUT, the higher magnification scopes will have less internal elevation adjustment. There's always a tradeoff.

I chose the new Sightron SIII in 6-24 instead of 8-32 because the former has 100 MOA of 'up', vs. 70 MOA of 'up' in the latter. But that's me.

If you want some good deals on very gently used Nightforce scopes, including a 5.5-22 and 8-32), there's a gent on Benchrest Central selling a couple right now. His name is Jim Weese, from Salmon, Idaho if I recall. Don't know him, but the prices were fair. :)

Good luck, whatever you pick.

Mirage and high magnification don't mix. I use cheap Weaver scopes and 24x is too much some days. Maybe the Nightforce and other high end big objective types can handle it better. Most prone guys seem to have 6-20 Leupolds. I can see how more magnification would be useful on the new smaller F class targets where extra weight is not such an issue. Reading Charles Ballard's account of his recent win with his Nightforce dialed down to 24x is worth noting however. Not sure if he used a seperate spotting scope to gauge mirage. Quite a balancing act if he didn't. I don't really know much about F class.

The National F-Class team mostly use the 12-42x56 Nightforce. I like high magnification also. Get a good variable with highest magnification possible. If you can't afford a Nightforce, get a Sightron; if you can't afford a Sightron, get a 36x or 24x Weaver.
