what powder for 80 gr 6PPC

I got some 80 gr Bergers to try for the 200 yard stage on the UBR targets,,anybody have a load they shoot in a 12 twist 6PPC ??

I may not be able to push them fast enough to make a difference but I wont know that till I try,,

I know Bart shot 80`s in a recent match at 200 so it cant be a completely crazy idea,,

this new 133 is so slow it may be just right but I may try 8208 and 322 also,,135 might be the ticket also but any advice would be good..

thanx again,

thanx again,
I appreciate how much time and effort you put into this game and for trying things for yourself. IMO, that's how we learn! We don't learn much by doing what everyone else does.

I could be wrong, but IIRC, Bart said something on here about shooting 80's in a Grendel case. I don't know what powder, only that he said it did shoot well. Maybe he'll come along and let us know what he was shooting, later.

A couple or so years ago I chambered up a 10 twist 6BR to shoot 87-95gr bullets. 8208 worked very well in that setup. It may work for 80's in a ppc but I think it is a tad too slow to be what I'd call ideal.

I've been wanting to do a 12 twist 6 Grendel for myself, for a long time. I did one for a customer a few years back and he said it's a tack driver. I think it'd be fine with a 13.5-14 twist and stay with the lighter bullets but just want to hedge my bet by using a 12 twist in case it prefers a little heavier bullets.

My first real BR rifle was a 14 twist 6BR. It shot 74gr Bergers well enough to give PPC'c fits. That barrel was exceptional, but I didn't know what I had, being new to serious BR. I've still got what's left of it. I think it's at about 19" and needs to be set back a bunch to freshen it up. Just can't bring myself to relegating it to holding up tomatoes yet.

Anyway, that barrel loved h322 and n135 behind the 74 bergers. --Mike

yes it is a Farley that will take either,,but if I do the 6BR I will probably put it on my long range rifle and shoot UL with it and shoot the PPC in Custom,,,the other rifle is a Stiller in a Shehane Tracker.

The 6BR is proven to do very well with the 80's. The PPC will likely do very well, too, but of course, is less capacity. Since you can do either, why not do the BR? I think that case is very well suited to the 80's. If you just wanna see how something different works at this game, the Grendel makes sense to me, with the 80 class bullets. Or, you could sell me that 12 twist and I'll give it a try! ;)

I am gonna keep the 12 I think it would be good for another 2500 rounds with a new throat,,the 13.5 shoots as good in calm but in wind when the 12 was newer it didnt take near as much hold off as the 13.5

VV135 worked very well for me with 80 or 88 gr Bergers in a 6BR.I would think it should translate to the PPC.

I had great luck with 8208 XBR and a 95 Spencers out of a 8 twist Brux barrel in a PPC. They were running at 2900 easy........ jim

thanx again,

Big,

With the Grinch I run my 80 gr Dominators between 29.5 and 30 grain with 2008 V133. I was shooting them around 3230 fps.
