80 gr Fowlers

Fowlers dies were sold after he passed away, and I can't remember the name but some one was making bullets. Don't know if they were doing 80 gr.

Unfortunately, these bullets are no longer in production. I'm not sure if the gentleman in South Carolina still owns the dies. I just looked, their website is still up with all of his contact information. I hope your search turns some up.

If my memory serves me, the Fowler dies were sold to Bill Schieder and then to Bart Sauter. Contact Bart; if he doesn't have them, he knows who does.

Jeff used Rorschach dies. Anyone with his dies could make you that bullet. I know Bart has Ed Watson's Rorschach dies and could probably help you. Pretty sure Walt Berger used his dies also, at least early on. You might ask them if there has been any changes from the original design.

Mic the shank to the .0001

mic the pressure ring to the .0001

Measure the ogive length on the shank

Compare various bullets.

Good luck!

anybody know if these bullets can still be bought,,form anybody anywhere,,I would Love to try some in my 12 twist 6ppc,,any leads would be great,,

thanx eric

Eric,
I shot the 80gr. Fowlers ( made by Jeff) in my first 12 6BR. I don't know about current production. Then Jeff stopped making his, I changed to Berger 80gr. They are listed as Varmint bullets, but they are benchrest bullets. I can't tell a difference.

Bill Scheider bought the Fowler dies. He makes "Fowler" bullets and the number I have for him is 843-422-3493. I have shot some of the 80 gr. bullets made by Bill and they shot great. James Mock

buy some berger 80gr fb bullets. they shoot just as well as my fowler 80gr bullets do. lee

at 200 yards in a 6PPC if accuracy was the same do you think the 80 gr would have an advantage over the 68 gr in wind considering the loss in fps,,

I will try the Bergers and see but would welcome input from anybody that has already tried this before,,

Yep, tried the 80s in my 12 twist ppc at 200yds. The results were less than encouraging. :( I would encourage you to try for yourself though.

Now, a very well tuned 6br might shorten the flight time enough to give decent results with the 80's. But then a 6br well tuned in 12, or 13 twist might be enough to make the lighter bullets work too.

Kinda thinking about a 12 twist br myself..... but I'm going to ferment on it a while before I decide. ;) WD
