What Pillars to use?

I am a complete novice at this and have done one bedding job so far. The stock I used was a Boyd's Tacticool (laminated wood), pillars were made on a friend's lathe, JB Weld for compound, and Armor All for a release agent.

It doesn't look nearly as nice as Cigarcop's pics but it is functional- tightened up the pattern and improved the cold bore shot.

One question I have is how much play should there be in the pillars where the screws go through? Some look sloppy and some look tight. Mine are on the tighter side.

Once it’s together and shootin’, enough clearance so that the screw never makes contact inside the pillar.

Is there any difference in the white or gray Marine Tex?

I ream my pillars to .265
Just make sure the screws aren't touching and you'll be fine.

2 things:

1. I drill my hole a little bigger than the pillar. If I'm remembering it right, I use a 14 mil bit. Then, I wrap blue painters tape around the action screw until it's snug and centered inside the pillar and bed it that way.

2. Nobody (That I have seen pics of) does bedding as beautifully as cigarcop.

Where is a good place to buy Marine Tex? Would the 2oz kit be enough for one rifle?

What do you guys use for a release agent?

TR Release Wax followed by Partall #10 Release Film. I suspect the Film helps a lot more than the wax, and a lot of people seem to use Kiwi Neutral. I haven't tried the Kiwi yet. I spray the film out of a $15 harbor freight spray gun.

White - 8,700 PSI (610 Kg/Cm2)
ADHESION SHEAR STRENGTH*:
Gray - 1,800 PSI (126 Kg/Cm2)
White - 2,300 PSI (160 Kg/Cm2)
