Hey all,
I have a new SAKO Quad in .17hmr, and find myself with a choice of optics. On the one hand I have an old (25 years+?) Leupold Vari-X fixed 10x40. On the other hand I have a new Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. Since I am planning on this .17hmr being a rabbit gun, it strikes me I won't want to dial down my optics as I'll be aiming for heads at 50-150m ranges, and in this case the parallax adjustment is just what you want. But will light transmission on the old scope match modern coated optics? And since this will mostly be lamping, is 10x too high when I want to be gathering light? Do I use the Zeiss because, well, it's just newer?
In the picture I have the Zeiss fitted. The Leupold has a hood on the front, making it look so long.
Points I am not currently considering especially welcome.
