what muzzle break

Im looking for recommendations on a muzzlebreak for my build. Its a 280AI and I have been thinking of the little bastard break.

Is there better?

I don't want ports on the bottom for obvious reasons.

I've got the APA Gen II Little Bastard on a 308 and it works great. Added benefit that you don't have to have a gunsmith time it for you. My 280AI has a Badger Thruster brake which is blended/timed/cerakoted to match the barrel. It looks nicer, and also works great for taming recoil. Recoil is very manageable, my 11 year old son has shot it extensively with no complaints.

Have you read the whole test series comparing muzzle brake performance over at Precision Rifle Blog?

I have a slabbed mini magnum "Muscle" brake that's only 80 bucks shipped, for sporter barrels. The first port is 90 degrees so as to direct majority of the gas away from the shooter. The proceeding ports are angled to further reduce recoil. This makes it a more shooter friendly brake than alot of the others out there. No ports on top or bottom either. I have many different models for different contours and size of cartridges. I offered Cal a brake for his test but he was already to far along to accept more. Considering the only difference between mine and the CSR is I have angled ports its safe to say the "muscle" brake will be more effective % wise in recoil reduction.

Which break would you go with, the badger or little b? Those are the two I have looked at

Tough call. I think the Badger is a bit cheaper even with the smith work to install it, but the APA Little B can be reused or swapped easily, and is easily sold on the second hand market if you were to swap guns, etc. That might matter if you planned on changing over to shooting with a suppressor and selling the brake, or if you were going to be shooting through a lot of barrels but keeping the brake.

I think my personal preference on a custom build would probably be the thruster, just for cosmetics. If I had to pick which brake was more effective, I think the nod goes to the APA by a tiny bit.

I have used both and they are both good brakes, given a choice I like the Little B. There is no cosmetic difference the little B or thruster they can both be blended. The Gen II Little B used the jam nut system.

There is a feature at the top, SEARCH FORUMS

Take a little time and read and see if there is a consensus on which one most use, no one is going to say "I have XYZ brake and it's a POS.
Also,http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/12/muzzle-brake-blast-ground-signature/
This will show the blast patterns of several brakes, but also a few links to some tests to see which one was the best in a couple of different ways.

I have used a couple of Ryan's CSR's a 338 Lapua Magnum and a 30-375 Ruger to great effect, when I got them they were a bargain compared to many. I will continue using the CSR if available.

I'm running a Harrells tactical on my 6SLR. I didn't see any reason to spend more on something that does the same thing.

I had to have 3 barrels re-threaded for suppressors and read the precision rifle blog numerous times as it has a wealth of info. No perfect brake as each has it's own unique strengths and weaknesses. I also chose the APA Little "B" as it seemed to be one of several that had a nice balance of attributes amongst all areas tested. So far it has exceeded my expectations and has better performance than the original brakes. Eric in DL
